I was trawling thru petfinder pages searching for some bunnies I’m trying to keep track of.  There is so, so, so many bunnies on there waiting for homes!   Every now and the a thumbnail image would make me want to take a closer look.  Such as these two.  They’re listed as adults and are litter mates.

Parsley & Sage (North Texas Rabbit Sanctury TX)

….and this girl who had a cute write up.

        Sunflower  (Hug-a-bunny rabbit rescue NJ)

        More About Sunflower

Hi, I’m Sunflower! I am a small, beautiful lady! I showed up at the county shelter right after Easter of 2008. It’s assumed that people bought me for the holiday (when chocolate bunnies are better anyway) and when I grew up, they realized that they didn’t want me anymore. We call rabbits like me “Easter-rejects” since we are affected by this yearly phenomenon. Unfortunately for me, I lost my home and ended up in a shelter. Finally, months later I had my big break when I was pulled out of there by Hug-a-Bunny. Now, almost a year later, I’m a happy, healthy young lady and I’m ready to find a permanent, loving home.

My breed is called a lionhead, and it’s characterized by the puff of hair around my neck, like a lion’s mane (or like a Sunflower!). I have a stark white coat and beautiful ruby-colored eyes. I’m small, at only 4 pounds, and am absolutely adorable. I am a but shy, but I don’t mind being held for short periods of time. I also like to be petted gently in my cage. I am totally litterbox trained, spayed, and ready for a new home that I can call my own. I might enjoy living with a calm neutered male, but I’d also be happy not having to share with anyone else. Most importantly is that this home is for LIFE- not just for a season. I promise that our love will bloom like the beautiful Sunflower that I am!

Wow you’re checking random places! I do this too. With my zip and my boyfriend’s… because I figure if I find one I have to have I can get it that way =p Of course, this means that I’ve found really lovely rabbits in Ontario Canada, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. There really are a ton! I limit my search my breed so there are only 2ish pages to go through before they get too far away.

haha! Well luckily, I’m not looking to adopt. Being half way round the world, places like TX and NJ are just….well plain out of the question!
I just end up on petfinder sometimes through links here or if I’m looking for a rescue I’ve heard about. Once you look at one page, you inevitably end up hopping across to a dozen more. I do check more local rescue options in my state regualrly though!

That is a very sweet ad.   Poor bunnies.

It’s so sad to see such wonderful bunnies who deserve a happy, loving home.

Parsley and Sage are littermates as well to Kralspace’s Hershey. They are about 7 years old and have been at the sanctuary since they were babies. They would need someone who has experience with rabbits and patience as they are not great with their litterboxes and they are also very skittish. They are adorable though – they look like little woodland creatures. I took that particular photo too with Moobunnay’s help.

Before I found Sammy I had checked Petfinder for any local shelters. The biggest by far was about an hour’s drive from here, but they had some cuties pictured. Same ones. Every time I checked, which went on for a few months. I finally emailed them to ask if one was still there, and they said “Oh, we don’t update our petfinder list. We have about 80 bunnies, so we just show those pictures and make an appointment for you to come look at who is there when you get here.

I was very disappointed. It would mean taking a chance on finding one that day and bringing a bunny home that I knew nothing about from Petfinder. I ended up finding Sammy elsewhere, closer to home.

                      Here was Hersheys NTRS photo…

wow, I almost fell over when I saw Parsely and Sage’s photo here! I like to visit with them and Fairbanks when I go up to Dallas for supplies. I’m a real sucker for the brown bunnies.

Hershey has been a real sweetheart. After spending her life at the sanctuary (a very, very nice place) it was a rare treat to watch her claim her world at my house, one square foot at a time. She would charge my hand, stopping just a hair short of touching me with her mouth, box my hand when I touched any of her new possessions and generally glare and stomp at my every overture.

She wasn’t shy like my Daisy, she’d come out in the open to face and challenge me. Over the months she gradually accepted us and now comes out and leans over the side asking for pets and treats and will quietly follow me around the house. While the others have gotten a bit lazy and will only come out of their condos for brief periods, Hershey’s out like a flash and in constant motion, exploring, moving things and keeping an eye on me. She took her new bachelor husbun, Simba, in hand and trained him up to properly worship and wait on her every whim.

Of all the six bunnies, it is the most satisfying to watch her accept my ear rubs and feel that tooth purr she does sometimes.

Now, if I could only get a place to have Fairbanks! Is he kin to the rest of the brownies also, Sarita?  Kathy

Faribanks isn’t part of that clan but he sure does resemble them doesn’t he – he’s a real sweetheart too.

I love that Hershey has come out of her shell and is so active and happy.

I couldn’t help lightening it a bit so you can see those beautiful brown eyes, reminds me of bambi. You should really do bunny portraits, Sarita!

Oh MM, it wasn’t intended to be a heart wrencher. (Well, as if a bunny could be anything but, but I’m hoping you know what I meant.)

I didn’t even register that those buns could be from rescue that Sarita & Moo are involved with! And that Kralspace has the sibling….Small world after all? I agree, it is a great picture, certainly sucked me right in! At 1st glance, I though Parsley and Sage were Nethies or nethie mixes. Is that right?

Parsley and Sage look really tiny and delicate in that photo, I was surprised when I saw them in person. Not big buns by any means, but not as itty bitty as they look. I always check out the NTRS petfinder photos to see if someone was adopted or new ones have come in and it’s kinda weird when I go up and see them in person and they’re moving around! I’m so used to the still photos.

It is a wonderful coincidence about knowing everyone! I think that second shot of Hershey was the one Sarita was taking that day and when she picked her up from the chair I saw her and HAD to hold her for awhile. She settled in against my neck and started tooth purring and I was hooked–little stinker!

That was the most beautiful bunny I had ever seen. Not that our other 5 five aren’t, but when my son first said he wanted a rabbit, I thought we’d be getting a ‘brownie’ and we have every combination ofl black -white-black/whites you can think of…lol

I sponsor a big ol white bunny named Lollipop, but if I get enough together I want to sponsor Fairbanks too.
