I’m really unsure of the amount of pellets to give my bun. Everyone is giving me different answers. 1/4 cup. 1/8 cup. Even unlimited!

I don’t know what to believe. My bun is a male holland lop who is around 5 months old, and he is being fed the Oxbow adult rabbit food.

How much do you feed your rabbits?

I give Oreo (dwarf mix, 3.5 pounds) about an 1/8 cup and Pocky (5 pounds) about the same, but Pocky is only getting that much since I just got him from the shelter and he’s been having some trouble adjusting. I’ll probably eventually adjust him to closer to 1/4 cup.

There are of course varied opinions. At five months he technically still could be getting unlimited pellets, but some Rabbits gorge themselves too much and you would have to limit them once he turned 6 months anyway.

For a rabbit the size of a Holland lop you could feed up to 1/4 cup. I’m a fan of feeding less and my buns 2.5kg and 3kg only got 2 tablespoons each per day. Some rabbits need a little more to maintain weight, and others need a little less or they get mushy poop.

I have two holland lops – Oakley is 5months old and he gets 1/4cup per day ( 1/8 morning and 1/8 evening )
Boston is 12 weeks and I’m just now starting to limit him as he won’t get hay much with unlimited so he is on 1/8 3x a day at the moment but by 5 months I’ll cut that back to 1/8 twice a day (1/4 cup a day total like Oakley )

I got Jake when he was 8mo and I’ve been giving him 1/4c a day since day 1! Granted, though, he’s a bit larger than a Holland lop (he’s a mini lop), but he eats a TON of hay. And will never leave even the smallest leaf on his veggie plate every night.

1/4c is probably just fine but it may be a good idea to ask your vet if you’re unsure!
