Okay guys, so I just got a new Netherland Dwarf bunny( my first rabbit after a LOT of begging with my parents) and he is a naughty little boy. He eats his hay his poops are nice dark and round and separate, and big, and he eats a good amount of Timothy hay. So I have a problem about his pellets. When I got him there was this combo thing and they gave me a big pack of pellets. The thing with these pellets was they have seeds nuts and those colorful things. I knew from the start this was a big no no. But I didn’t want to waste them so what I did was grab a handful a day and took out all the bad stuff and gave only the pellets. I finally got a chance to get him some nice trusty Oxbow pellets. Should I give the good healthy pellets without transitioning or should I do the whole process with switching pellets. I ask this because I’m worried about my bun eating the nasty things even if they are seperated from the seeds and stuff. What is yall’s opinion on this? Please Please help an anxious bunny (mom or sister? I’m still a young person)!

It’s always a good idea to mix a few new ones in and gradually transition to all new ones. But some buns don’t care and will happily hoover any pellets.

You can stop the old food straight away if it’s bad for him, but it’s still recommended to introduce the new food slowly to avoid gut upset as if you were transitioning food, just without the old food added in

I would suggest to put a little of the bad mixed pellets with a lot of the new Oxbow pellets, because if you do it to fast it might lead to a upset stomach.

Okay thank you so much guys! Yeah I’ve been doing that so far just adding a pinch of the bad ones. He absolutely loves his new food though which is good!

Um one more question ( I’m new here so I don’t know if post another topic for this) do rabbits get slower in the winter time? I hope it’s not because of the pellets but my rabbit is a little more sleepy than usual. His poop and eating habits are still fine. But I don’t know if winter has anything to do with that?

When the seasons change, buns do slow down or pick up.
As long as he’s eating/drinking and toileting as usual, all’s usually well.

I’ve read that domestic bunnies get more active and energetic in cool weather, the 50’s to 60’s on the Fahrenheit scale, since they’re descended from European wild rabbits that do best in those temperature ranges.

Hmmm. He’s a till hopping around and doing bunnies but calmer now. His eating habitable and pooping hasn’t changed though. If anything he eats slightly more.
