Okay,
I know there have been many threads in the past debating between Oxbow and Sherwood Forest pellets and which are best. I had always been a long time Oxbow supporter, loved all of their products: hay, treats, toys, supplements, food, etc. But then I broke down and finally decided to try Sherwood Forest and see what all the hype was about, knowing that many BB users have had much success with this brand.
Fast forward to April, where I began mixing and slowly transitioning my two rabbits from Oxbow Bunny Basics T, over to Sherwood Forest’s Maintenance pellet, the one without Timothy hay. Just as a note, I feed first cut Timothy Hay from American Pet Diner, I found their quality to be superior to Oxbow’s Timothy hay, plus my rabbits seem to prefer it over Oxbow when given the option. Occasionally they will get Oxbow Organic Meadow Hay, or Oxbow Oat hay. But anyways, I digress… My male rabbit, Tucker, has been having smaller poops recently since they have been only eating the Sherwood with no Oxbow mixed in. My female, Lucky, seems to be doing fine with the new pellets. They both went to the vet yesterday for a wellness checkup, and the vet did not see any gut issues, she said both of them have healthy gut sounds. But Tucker is still producing less than optimally sized poops. I have only started to notice this once I took Oxbow out of his diet, because when comparing the Crude Fiber percentages it looks like Oxbow’s Bunny Basics T is decently higher than the Sherwood Forest I am feeding them now. The maximum Crude Fiber for Oxbow is 29% while the maximum Crude Fiber for Sherwood Forest Maintenance is 23%.
Anyways, I am thinking of switching back to Oxbow, does this sound like a good plan? I hate to transition them on a new food again but I figure if I do it slowly enough and just keep mixing until my current Sherwood pellets are gone they should be alright. Anyone else had a similar experience with Sherwood? I don’t think the pellets are horrible, I just don’t think they settle well with one of my rabbits.
