before i was completely aware of how to take care of my rabbit, i had my dad buy this really unhealthy brand of pellets from Walmart whenever Sienna ran out. not only was it full of seeds and some kinds of dried fruit, but i looked at the ingredients and found out that the pellets were actually alfalfa ones. no thanks.

soon after i found this out i stopped feeding them because of how unhealthy they were, and while Sienna seems to be doing fine without them, i was just wondering how long she could go without a decent brand of timothy pellets. i’ve heard of people not providing any pellets to their rabbits at any time, but i think it’s always due to health issues? correct me if i’m wrong.

we’d have to either order pellets or get them from a local pet store, and i’ve seen that the good kinds of pellets can get a bit pricey. if Sienna could manage a little while longer without the added nutrition i’ll gladly wait with her since my parents are a bit short on extra money, but if i find out she should be introduced to a better type of pellet ASAP i’ll see if i can make a bit of money to buy it myself.

Rabbits do get vitamins and other nutrients from pellets, but pellets only make up a small part of their diet. If a rabbit is on a pellet free diet, they are supposed to get a variety of around 15 different veggies/greens a day, which might be hard to do and would also be costly.

Pet stores are usually rather high priced, but they do sometimes have sales. I get my pellets from drsfostersmith.com. They are always cheaper there than at a pet store. Right now, they have free shipping if your order is $19 or more. I get Oxbow pellets from there, also Oxbow hay and American Pet Diner Hay.

I purchase my pellets online from Small Pet Select. It’s $20 for a 5lb bag, which will last you a while if you are only feeding the recommended 1/8 cup per 2lbs of body weight. My bun LOVES these pellets and I also get my hay from them, very good quality hay! I think it’s $40 for a 10lb box of Timothy hay. It is a ton of hay! I would check them out, it’s convenient and really good quality!

yeah, i don’t think i’d be able to provide 15 different veggies a day.

thanks for the recommendation! i’ve heard of that website before and i actually bought a few things for my crested gecko from that website in the past. haven’t thought to look there for pellets, though.

i’ve heard of Small Pet Select and i’ve heard their rabbit food is really good. the bag of pellets my dad used to buy was always an 8 pound one and it lasted for months. i’ve also been wanting to buy a large quantity of hay so that i’d never accidentally run out before the week ended. i’ll look more into it!
