› FORUM › HOUSE RABBIT Q & A › Pee dribbles?
I keep finding little spots on the fleece in the bunny area. The spots are about the size of the end of a pencil eraser and are usually in groups of two or three with an occasional single spot the size of a dime. On the fleece they are an orangy brownish color and are always dry. Tonight I found 3 widely spaced whitish spots on the black flooring of the crate that houses the two litterboxes and hay feeders. Could these both be pee dribbles? I also find occasional stains on the fleece that are the same color as the orangy brown spots but the look more like cecals were dropped and then eaten (except the cecals would have to have to have been this color and not dark).
Any idea what this is? I don’t know which of the lops (or both?),is leaving the spots. Could it be that one of them has a urinary tract infection? Does this sound like a vet visit or wait and see?
My first thought is cecal “juice” that is dried.
Um, what exactly is cecal “juice”? If their cecals are always very dark, would it make sense that the spots are much lighter are orangy brown instead of black brown?
Here’s some pics . . .
I’m pretty sure this is cecal stains . . .

But what is this? There’s no “debris”, just a dry smooth stain . .

Vet or wait and see? There aren’t a bunch of spots but they started appearing a few weeks ago (or I just started noticing them when we put down new fleece!)
oo what about scent gland “juice”?
If the M&M’s seem fine with their behaviour and eating I wouldn’t be too concerned….. the staining I find on my comforter as I make my bed (keep in mind I’m over washing my bedding ‘everyday’!) as long as it’s down near my leg/feet area I never worry about it as long as it’s NOT blood! I’m sure these stains are from the dog’s (old age – leaking?). But, because Henry is sooo good with his toileting, even if he left the same marks as the M&M’s, I would never be able to see it in his litter box – we use newspaper, shredded paper and dud hay we bought from a produce store once (a whole bale and a year later we still have half of it left – doh!). Unless I saw blood or noticed Henry unwell, I would never notice a change in his leftover’s…..
I think all is ok, and without ‘knowing’, I have to agree with Sarita – a bit of poop juice.
PS – Just thought you’d like to know this (LOL!). When I woke up this morning I saw 2 Henry poops on the bed (it’s been ages since he left me a gift), and after getting back into bed with my cuppa (I woke up really early, so got back into bed), and thought when I get up I better grab those….
Anyhow, when I got up and went to grab them – they were gone!!! Someone (dog’s I’m guessing???) ‘ate’ them! SOOOO GROSS! But hey, I didn’t have to pick them up – bonus! ha ha ha ha……
I know this had nothing to do with your question – just thought I’d share….. LOL!!!
I was reading some old threads and thought about that too Manic. But, when I’ve tried to vlean Marlee and Moshi’s, they were squeeky clean (I know these spots didn’t come from Kieko, but her scent glands only have think creamy/waxy yellowish stuff — no “juice”). Can scent glands produce orangy brown liquid drops?
Dog anal gland juice is light tan/brownish, I dunno about rabbits though… there is no way Bumpy will let me look. lol
Ok, so far we have votes for cecal juice, scent gland juice, and poop juice. No one thinks this is pee caused by a uti? Never thought I’d say this, but as long as it’some type of butt juice I won’t worry!
Have you flipped them all over to see if anything looks wrong? I think if it was a UTI there would be an increase in amount and size. If it were me, I’d probably enlist the hubby in helping me look at some bottoms just to see if there was any evidence on any fur.
Will probably try that tomorrow night . . . Flipping them over means picking them up . . . uuugggghhh!
LOL I don’t envy you there. ![]()
I just don’t think I would be too concerned with one odd dribble :~)
Sarita, they aren’t everywhere, but they keep appearing. ![]()
I vote pee “juice”. Mmm juice. haha.
It could be that one of your buns hops out the litterbox a bit early causing the dribbles? Rabbit pee comes in a variety of colors. Ox’s pee is mainly orange, although I’ve seen his be clear (but dried white) and various shades of yellow and orange. I think pee color is mainly determined by diet, but I could be wrong. I just know they have many pee colors.
The big brown spots on the fleece look like cecal remnants though.
If these spots were near the litterbox I would be inclined to agree. They’re bugging me because they are in odd places away from their litter boxes. If it’s normal for bunnies to leave odd spots around, then I won’t let it bug me anymore. Just don’t want one of those weekend issues!
Flipped them over. Hubby is completely covered in bunny fir and I am no closer to solving the mystery.
Nothing underneath Moshi. His “down there” fur has some natural color so staining is possible but not obvious if it’s there. Don’t see how this could be from Marlee — that little bunny has so much thick white fur underneath her that I had a terrible time even finding where anything comes out of her. Barely found her scent glands at all and never could get a good look inside them, but everything I could see on her was solid white clean fur with healthy light pink skin underneath. Moshi’s scent glands were squeeky clean.
Guess I’m going yo have to go with poop juice and not worry unless the spots get bigger and more frequent.
Thanks for the help everyone!
