Patch of grass?

I was just reading the post with the rabbit who has the grass flooring for the cage?  I’m sorry I have a terrible memory and can’t remember the name but the bun’s name was Tiger Lily, anywho..I loved that idea but I can’t see myself doing that because of the size of his pen and the mess/etc.  But..I was thinking it’d be neat if I had a little patch of grass in there for him that he could eat/sit on.  I was thinking I could get a shallow box..like those tupperware ones..or maybe even a big litter box and plant the grass in, and then bring it inside.  I figure if  I grew it myself I could be sure there was no pesticides.

However..I have a few questions that maybe someone in here could answer…

Are there certain grasses that are ok and not ok for a bunny to eat? 

I’m also wondering how much sunlight grass needs…

Could my bunny end up eating TOO MUCH grass? 

I’d love to bring a bit of the outdoors in for Tucker as we have nasty mocking birds outside so Tucker won’t be going outside..not even supervised. 

Any other potential issues anyone could see with this?

If you don’t think grass could work..is there maybe a plant I could put in there with him that’d be safe for him to nibble at?  Something to make his home more…outside like   Or do you think I’m just completely nuts and that Tucker really doesn’t care lol

You know that is a great idea.  I know lots of buns love dollarweed.  Bahia grass, st augustine grass and crab grass are ok for them to eat. Someone had posted about cat nip. I dont’ remember if that was ok or not.

Hey you could even put in herbs. Mint.  The site houserabbit.org  would have a list fo herbs that are ok for them.  Mine don’t like mint tho. STrange.

I had grown carrot beet and radish for the buns to eat the tops of. Ruby loves it. Cotton turns  his nose up at it. Ohhhh parsley and cilantro are big fav’s with buns. You could even grow some of that for them.

hi guys my name is Marilu, my husband Eddy and I put in the grass for TigerLily. We used Scotts Moss which has small flowers in it, our vet said it was okay for her to eat since it was Organic grown. The grass is very easy to maintain, we water it once a week and let it outside to dry. TigerLily does pick at the flowers and eat a bit of the grass but not insane amount of it she likes her Hay better You can easily cut the tray that the grass comes in and modify it for your cage / pen. I do recommend leaving the plastic grate box that the grass comes in because it makes it easy to drain, if it doesn’t drain right when you water it Bunny can get mold in her feet because of the humidity (or so I was told).

Fresh grass is great for rabbits if it is as Bunnyfoofoo mentions. That’s what wild rabbits survive on.

I’ve seen big things of wheat grass at Whole Foods sometimes.
