Hi everyone. I’m new here. My name is Melanie. My fiancé and I currently have two bunnies, Muffin a 6 month old Lion-head and a Mini Lop who is probably about a year old named Cinnabun. I’m not even 100% sure what I’m looking for here, advice, guidance or maybe just the ear of someone who understands. I have a lot of people in my life who don’t really get that a bunny is an actual pet you can be attached to!
My fiancé and I adopted our two after we lost our previous rescue to cancer. Her name was Noel and sadly we had her for only a short time before we found out she was ill. She died at home shortly there after. We were the first people to even take her to a vet
Poor babe. I’m just glad she had a happy home and lots of greens at the end.
So our bunny Muffin was spayed yesterday and the hospital called yesterday evening to tell us she appears to have lost the use of her back, left side after surgery. They of course did x-rays right away, gave pain meds and got her eating. Everything was all clear on the x-ray. Eating, pooping, peeing and otherwise happy. The hope was that it was just a reaction to pain and would lessen overnight. They did acupuncture this morning. She started back on greens. Seems happy, trying to scooch around but still no improvement. The hospital is keeping her an extra day so she can be monitored overnight again, but I’m really getting scared. I don’t want to lose another bun so soon! She is the sweetest little soul. I just don’t understand what happened.
So far we haven’t had a whole lot of explanation. Maybe its a blood clot? Wait and see. We will have a chance to speak with the head doctor (who was the surgeon) later today. But I’m just at a loss. These two aren’t my first rabbits. I’ve had two bonded pairs in my adult life, been through 3 spay procedures and they always just came through happy and healthy and all three lived well past 10 years old. The hospital and doctor are to my knowledge regarded as the best in our metro area. I just don’t know what could have happened. I’m so worried!
