Ozzy is back to 100% and he’s learned a new trick: jumping onto the sofa. I suppose he must have pinched the nerve or sprained his leg, but I’m still not sure how it happened. Hopefully, he won’t have any more incidents now that he is back to his hyper self. I’m also looking to have him fixed in the future because I’ve come across someone with a female chinchilla house buns they need to rehome. She’s a few months older than Ozzy, and a good size bigger (he has to be some kind of dwar rabbit mix as he’s not getting much bigger). Does size difference make a difference in their ability to bond? I really think he would like a friend since he keeps trying to bind to our dog. Also, how would I know if she was in heat? Do the come in heat like a dog would? Could I allow them time together before Oz has surgery? Or would it be better to have her fixed? I would like to get her sooner than later, but I don’t want any bun babies.

Do not let them get together at all before they have been spayed and neutered. Not only do you risk pregnancy, but you also risk fighting and serious injuries. Then you will have a few weeks recuperation period after their surgeries before you can start bonding. A rabbit does not come into heat like a dog. A female can get pregnant at any time. You could put their cages/pens near each other, but don’t have them touching. Rabbits can mate through cage bars. Even if you get Ozzy neutered, which eliminates the danger of litters, you still need to get the female spayed. It will improve her behavior and attitude and prevent uterine cancer which is very common.

          The size difference shouldn’t matter.
