I am thinking of picking up some Oxbow Support Tablets. I have heard that rabbit vets highly recommend them. Here are the three I am thinking about getting and why.
Natural Science Digestive Support Hay Tablets: Mocha and Lulu have both had GI stasis within the last few months. Mocha actually just had a bit of has today.
Ebony’s previous owner said that she has had surgery to remove a blockage.
Natural Science Urinary Support Hay Tablets: Lulu has had a lot of urinary problems. Because of it, I can no longer feed her pellets. As soon as she eats even a small amount of pellets she gets a UTI.
Natural Science Multi-Vitamin Hay Tablets: As mentioned above, Lulu can not have pellets. My vet recommended just to take Mocha off of pellets because he is a bit chubby. Because Mocha and Lulu don’t eat pellets I figured Ebony doesn’t need them either. My vet really leans toward fresh veggies and hay for bunnies diets. Since they don’t get pellets a lot of people freak out and say my rabbits are lacking nutrients and vitamins and are going to get sick with out them. First of all, they have been pellet free for 2 years now with no health problems. I have only had problems when I tried to introduce them again. Anyways, I was thinking maybe I should give this tablet to just “guarantee” they are getting everything they need.
Question:
1. The package says to feed 2 tablets for rabbits over 4lbs. I feel like that is a lot and I would be running out of tablets every week almost! Do you think I could just do 1 a day or 2 every other day?
2. Do you think the multi-vitamin would be beneficial to my rabbit? If so, would the calcium in this tablet be just as bad as the calcium in pellets?
I’d love to hear your thoughts! Let me know if you use these tablets!
