Outside Time

I think Moonpie’s favorite thing (aside from craisins of course) is going outside now. Last week I took him outside, and we stayed out for about 3 hours; I was determined to see if he would come out of his shell and actually move around. At first, he just sat hunched next to me; clearly thinking this was horrible and he hated it. After about an hour he started exploring a bit more, fast forward another hour and he is sprinting around, binkying, and flopping all over the courtyard .

I have been trying to take him out for at least an hour everyday, and he seems to love it now. As soon as I take him out there and set him down he is off exploring. There is a little “walkway” thing, and at random intervals he will start running down it to gain speed for binkys that usually get at least a foot off the ground; it’s great to see him so happy.

 

His favorite thing is to head over towards my neighbors door; which he isn’t allowed to do of course. They have a bunny they sometimes let sit at the door, and I can’t see him. He’ll go over and sit so I can kinda see him, I will walk over and go behind him to herd him away and then he sprints off with a binky or two, every single time. I’m pretty sure it’s a fun game for him.

It’s all closed off right? It’ll be terrible if a stray dog came by or someone let their dog out, off leash, to go potty and your bun was there.
I see his shedding is more in control now :p

I would put up some kind of fencing (unless there actually is fencing there an I just can see it in the pictures) just in case something scares him and he runs off into the street. A scared bun is difficult to catch :/

He looks very cute outside but I would definitely NEVER let him outside without an X-pen. If he gets frightened and takes off you would have a real emergency on your hands.

Thankfully the area he is allowed to run in is totally enclosed. Though I do sometimes groom him in the front yard,  but he’s not allowed to roam free there.   

Ithink that having a space that’s totally enclosed is safe.  I feel like putting him in an x pen is the same thing as keeping him locked in his cage, it doesn’t count as “out time”. It’s just moving their cage to somewhere new.  He likes being able to sprint top speed around the courtyard and get into everything.  I definitely have to keep a close eye on him, and am constantly getting up to shoo him back into where I can see him; but watching him binky and flop in sheer joy is definitely worth it.

If I had no safe enclosed space for him I might consider an x  pen,  but for my current situation one is unecessary.

As long as your enclosed space is totally bunny safe (no holes he could escape through) it seems really nice for him.

My two hate it outside and I’m always paranoid of ticks (I would never be able to find ticks on their bellies if they picked some up) so no outside time for us.

I am so jealous! I know Sally would HATE being outside she gets terrified just looking out the door and runs to her cage if it’s opened. Harley, tries to go outside when I open the door to let the dogs out. lol

Maybe I should build an outside run for him to play like you have! I’m glad he is able to go outside and run to his hearts content and actually enjoy it!

Aww, that’s so great for him! Foo is terrified of outside and has no interest in it. Last time we took her to get her nails trimmed we put her carried down on the grass and she freaked out until Ry picked it up and got her in the car. I think she was probably traumatized by something while she was a stray and would be happy never seeing the light of outside again.

Aww, he looks like he really enjoys being outside. I take Ash outside whenever I can. He wears a harness though. The first time he was outside on a harness, he was on the porch. He sniffed around and than hopped down the steps, and than BAM! Instant exploring . He was hopping around everywhere exploring everything chinning plants and eating grass. Haha, it was so cute to watch! And he binkys a lot outside too. Here are some pictures of him walking outside.

Anyway, I think its good for bunnies to be let out. As long as no animals can come in and harm the bunny. And as long as there are no poisenous plants.that the bunny can get ahold of.

I would never dare letting Bam out. I can’t believe that your buns don’t run away!! I’m very impressed, I think it’s great!

Bam has a harness but he HATES it. But yesterday the vet (Bam had his 2nd vaccine-shot) said Bam is too well-fed, i e fat. Needs to lose 0,5 lbs. The vet suggested more excercise and less pellets. Bam is not an athlete, he prefers to lie about and look at stuff rather than do stuff.

I really want to build some kind of outdoor pen to put Lucy in. I’m sure she would love going outside, because she’s so dang curious, and she could actually dig! But the wonderful world of the outdoors will have to wait until after she’s spayed.

I have a digging-box for my bun in his outdoors run. There is netting in the bottom because a bunny can easily dig out of anything, not to mention what could dig itself into the run. The grass grows through the netting though so he doesn’t have to walk directly on it.
