Outdoor plants.

Hello all,

I was given the green light to take my bunny-butt outside on a leash.
He didn’t hop around much the first 3 times, just sat in one spot and ate grass. 

The last time I took him out he got a bit of wind with him and hopped around a bit, fine and dandy except that he started to chew on items like the dandelions.   Looking in the guides for toxic plants I don’t see dandelions on it, so I guess its ok for him to eat them?

But that then made me start to wonder about what else was around.  The lists are great except I don’t know what all of the items look like.   I think there are some clovers and violets? *small grass based ‘vine’ plant with a few little purple flowers on it.* 

So I guess what I’m wondering, is if there is anything that is common, and grows with out being planted that I should be worried about him eating? *Midwest* 

I’m not seeing anything that looks off from what I have seen in the grass growing up, but if there is a type of plant that I should be watching out for?

The only thing I can think of that might be common is hemlock. Otherwise, there are tons of plants that are potentially harmful but they are either ornamental or they are not commonly found as “weeds” growing in the yard. There are wildflowers that are scattered in the parks here in the buffer zones. Some of those are potentially harmful. The problem is that common names will vary greatly. Like what some might call buttercup (listed on the HRS website as poisonous), others might call crowfoot.

The number of plants that are considered native wildflowers on the toxic list is surprising. Many were used medicinal purposes.

Anyway, dandelions are fine. Violet seeds are listed as being toxic (leaves are supposedly OK), so perhaps it is best to steer clear? I’m not sure what you mean about a vine with small purple flowers. Is it vetch? That’s not poisonous.
