Well guys, I had to work New Year’s day, so we did a little celebration at my sisters house on Friday night. After work I went home and made sure Ophelia had lots of fresh hay and water, because I was staying the night at my sisters house (don’t drink and drive folks!). Only she got her pellets late on Saturday, since I wasn’t home early to give them.

I thought, she will be totally fine for the rest of the night and I’ll be back home in the morning. Well, apparently the husband left a hammer on the top of the couch (um, why on the couch??? lol) ….she must have jumped up top and ate a bit of the rubber handle. She doesn’t chew on anything else, but let her get her teeth on something rubber and she will go to town! Anyway, I watched her closely all day Saturday, checked poop output (which is still PLENTY), she’s still very energetic and excitable… binky madness this morning on the bed as usual.

BUT I am still worrying because although I have been squashing poops every day, I have yet to find any rubber bits in poops. Previously, when she has eaten some carpet I have seen it come out the other way mashed into a poop package.. Maybe the rubber pieces are small? Do you think she is ok by now (been 3 full days) or should I still be concerned about a blockage? She has not had any GI issues in the 8 months that I’ve had her **knocks wood**

        Thanks!

Ha I had the same worry when Peanut ate the handle on his plastic bucket. I didn’t see any evidence of it in his poops and he was right as rain. I would assume if there was any sort of blockage you’d be seeing signs of it by now. I think she’ll be fine

I think she’ll be fine, its been 3 days. I dont know what stomach acid does to rubber, but she also probably chewed it into very small pieces. My Yohio once ate the rubber rim of a dustpan. He ate all of it and I didnt notice it was gone until the next time I needed the dustpan. But Yohio was fine.

What is it with bunnies and rubber?

Luna has eaten most of our tv remote buttons (and when she stayed at my parents…. I forgot to warn them that remote was a delicacy to bunnies), and it never seems to have done her any harm. I wouldn’t worry now that three days have passed!

That’s a relief! I thought that by now I would be seeing signs- lethargy, decreased appetite. But she’s still the same crazy little bundle of zoomies and binkies! But no matter how sure I think it’s all fine, I always worry!

She ate it because it’s not like we humans have to panic and scramble to find a vet open on the weekend and the holidays . Glad she’s ok though! I agree with the others – she probably passed it awhile ago. And as Bam stated, buns chew their food very thoroughly, so that plus the stomach acid could be why you haven’t seen the little bits of rubber.

S&L – Luna loves the tv remote buttons too!

Do NOT leave Havaianas within reach of bunnies. I’ve never met a bun who hasn’t gone nuts over this footware

Fernando appears to have developed a fascination with my socks/feet – he’s started scrabbling at them with his little paws and nipping at them during our most recent floor sessions. As long as he doesn’t actually try to EAT my socks (particularly with my feet in them), I’m not worried.

Same here, same here.  First time on the couch as a youngster, we thought Icey was just checking out this little foreign object and within seconds three buttons no longer existed.  Early lessons!  We also have front and back door mats with rubber edges that she has customized over the years.  Never had any issues with her gut.

This rubber infatuation is so interesting! I wonder why they particularly like any and all things rubber…maybe it gives them some resistance when they bite it and they like that better than just plain old hard wood? Not sure, but rubber is like the ONLY thing she chews. I’ve never seen her even nibble at a baseboard and the only other thing she has nibbled on are the corners of DVD box sets. I just always make sure that there is nothing rubber lying around…but this time was the husband’s fault! Look man, I can’t babysit the bunny AND you lol

I never have any issue with mine eating clothes, socks, or anything I wear. But give them a towel, a plastic bag, or even the plastic off a CD or toy and rabbits seem to be drawn to them. I’ve not had it bugger my buns up yet, they pass it fine, and I’ve had some who eat tape like it’s a snack. As long as they don’t stop pooping and digesting this stuff seems to go right on through and not hurt them at all.
