My rabbit is on metacam long term for his arthritis, he currently goes through a 32ml bottle in around a month. I currently pay £36 per bottle from his vets but I’ve seen sites that are selling the same medicine for £7. Are these sites legit or are they scams? Seems like a huge mark up that I’m currently paying, and I don’t want to risk his health

Are they sites that require a prescription from your vet?

If not, I would not trust them. But, if they are sort of an online pharmacy that requires a prescription to be sent in, then they might be OK (like in the US there is a site called petmeds that your vet has to send your prescriptions to).

Metacam is one of the expensive brands. Meloxicam is available in many brands. I use loxicom for my rabbits . You can see a list on this page. http://vgr1.com/metacam/

If you get a script from your vet, you can buy it online. Your vet may charge a fee for the script but in the long run, you’ll save money.

If you personally know other rabbit owners or are part of a online rabbit group, do ask around what site people gace successfully used.
Here are some UK base ones I found some rabbit owners have used:
            http://www.animeddirect.co.uk
            http://www.vetmedsplus.co.uk
            http://www.bestpetpharmacy.co.uk
            http://www.farmacy.co.uk

Hopefully some of our own UK members here will have a recommendation also.

Ive only bought an antibiotic online, which I had a script for. As DanaNM said, avoid sites that offer prescription meds without requiring the prescription. Those don’t sound legit at all.

I’d trust VetUK, but they do require a prescription for prescription meds. They have loxicom and Metacam. I shop from them a lot, but not prescription meds. They seem meticulous though, I once tried to order sth that is prescription free in the UK but not in my country, but they didn’t let me (I didn’t know it was a prescription med here, just thought it wasn’t available at all where I am).

Thanks for the advice, I though that some of them were too good to be true. I thinking do abit more research on these sites before I buy from them. I’ve never seen a medicine site before so didnt even think about needing a prescription to buy medicines but it makes sense
