I have 3 rabbits in my apartment. Buttermilk and Crusher are a bonded pair and our third Ro is a rescue who was dumped and we’re helping her settle in to indoor life.
Buttermilk has been fine all day – neither I nor my boyfriend have noticed anything wrong with his eye up until a couple hours ago. His right eye has been totally shut most of the time and will only open about halfway. I’ve done a bit of googling and I know it is most likely an infection. He has had incidents with hay getting stuck in his eye before though, so maybe it’s something related to that. It’s about 9:00 PM right now and the vet doesn’t open until 9:00 AM tomorrow. Buttermilk is acting totally fine: normal appetite, normal demands for pettings, normal playfulness. I am an extremely nervous bun parent though, as he has had bad GI stasis scares in the past. In those cases I’ve stayed up all night with him. I’m wondering if anyone thinks it would be risky to leave him unsupervised for the night with this condition. Should I stay up with him to make sure he’s alright? No matter what I am calling the vet right at 9:00 AM and scheduling an appointment – if not with this vet then with one an hour away.
