This morning I came down to give Albert his veggies and he seemed so excited. I went back upstairs to get some things done and when I came back down he had barely nibbled on them. He passed up his pellets too which is totally not mormal. Recently I’ve noticed that his nose has been a bit wet, no discharge or anything and thought maybe it was from his water bowl. He is constantly drinking. Now I suspect it might be teeth related. So we have an apt at 3:45 this afternoon. Not looking forward to the hour drive or braving the polar vortex temps but I’d rather not wait. Let’s hope it isn’t anything serious!
Oh, stay warm! Hopefully it’s just a tooth issue which while stressful can be easily resolved if it’s the molars and they can be trimmed. Keep us updated.
Hope it goes well! ![]()
I sure hope so. Godspeed!
(( Vibes for Al ))
Hope all ends up being well. ![]()
Thanks all! I’ll keep you posted!
Well it looks like AL has a bit of stasis, maybe brought on by some hay he didn’t like or whatever is causing his nose to run a bit. The vet couldn’t find anything definitely wrong with him other than those two symptoms. His gut felt fine, his temp was normal, teeth look good, gums are a good color and he didn’t seem dehydrated. As a precaution she suggested trying a new bag of hay and gave him an antibiotic (sulfatrim) and some sub q fluids. The down side is he will be mad at me for few hours and I know he won’t eat anything in the meantime due to that alone. Hopefully in a bit I can get him eating some new hay and he will take his antibiotic OK. I need to syringe feed it. Fingers crossed!
Glad to hear it wasn’t more serious – I’ll keep my fingers ‘and’ toes crossed that’s all it is and Al comes good with the medicine and new hay. Cheers Kbana.
Glad to hear it looks okay!
Sending lots of love for a speedy recovery! ![]()
<img src="data:Well this is what happens when you try to give a bunny antibiotics while holding him. solo. without protective clothing. Lesson learned! I eventually cornered him on the ground and he took it just fine. He also ate a little bit of banana as a treat after all the trauma I put him through so I think that is a good sign. Off to get some hydrogen peroxide I go. LOL!
Also hoping for a speedy recovery! Keep us posted.
Edit: Didn’t see the pic before I posted. Yikes! At least he’s feeling lively I guess.
Um…. I can’t see the pic? Do I have to do something besides clicking on the small square box? (showing my age or my computer ignorance – doh!).
Oh he’s lively alright. LOL!
Thanks!!
Well last night before bed he ate a sprig of mint, a few strands of hay and a dried cranberry. I’m off to feed him his morning meds now.
(((((Al)))))
I can’t se the pic. I just get a small box with an X in it. Clicking it doesn’t help.
Thank you Bam! ME TOO!!!!!
Come on Kbana – you can’t tease us with a photo that some (me & Bam) can’t see???? LOL! But seriously – I wonder why?
Ha ha AndHenry, I have no idea why…I’ll try it again…<img src="data:
Good news! I think/hope! Albert had eaten all of his veggies when husband went downstairs to check on him. I gave them to him at 5 am, and he ate them between 8/8:30 am. Still odd for him to wait that long but I am hopeful that he is eating at least. I also managed to get his meds in him with fewer scratches. LOL! I am going to head home right after work to check on him.
Ouch, those scratches look painful :~( Glad Albert is doing better – continued vibes.
Thanks! Needless to say I’m wearing a scarf today so I don’t freak out my students LOL! Everyone would wonder how I got attacked over the weekend. Hee hee!! Good thing I love the little guy so much! The things we put up with eh? ![]()
I have found if my rabbits starts to protest, immediately I let go, It seems nothing gets them out of the “get away mode” faster, after which I can usually pick them up again with out much protest.
Well he pooped a bit by the time I got home from work, some of his pellets were gone and he munched on a few strands of hay. I’ll take it! Tonight’s meds were a bit rough. Half of the syringe ended up on his face. Oh well. Better than nothing. ha!
Ouch! Sounds like you found the trick to medicating…pin ’em to the floor! I’d have to wear a scarf at home. Hubby can’t stand seeing me scratched up cuz I’m so delicate. Ha ha
Tonight hubby fed him meds while I held him. Whoa! So much easier. Too bad I can’t get hubby up at 5 am for the morning dose. Bummer.
Eating is almost back to normal. He is eating all his veggies and most pellets. Hay consumption seems pretty normal too. Poop is still slow but he is pooping so I’ll take it. He also started either grunting or honking today (not sure which as I haven’t heard either before). He was circling my arms as I dangled them in his pen. It wasn’t loud but it was a definite repetitive sound. He was supposed to be neutered on Monday but with all that was going on I was taking too much time off work and I couldn’t reschedule until March 10th. Let’s hope he doesn’t start spraying!!
I’ve got everything possible that can be crossed on my body that Al doesn’t start spraying – I wouldn’t wish that on you! I reckon you’ll be ok though – it’s not that much longer…..
Oh AndHenry, I hope so!!!!
