I’d been suspecting since Wednesday evening that either Panda or Fernando has been using the corner of their condo’s lower level directly opposite the litterbox as a toilet, as I saw a suspiciously increasing pile of hay and poops there and was noticing a definite latrine whiff. So I got me a small whisk broom and dustpan and went in there last evening while I was cleaning out the used litter and soiled hay in the box, and guess what: I was right! In addition to the hay and poops, there was a bright-yellow smear of drying urine on the floor (if I didn’t know that bunnies’ urine often has bright colors as a rule, I’d have been alarmed). Tsk, tsk, tsk. I cleaned that corner out and moved the litterbox over there, and from what I can tell, both buns have been doing their business properly overnight. That being said…

Finding the right size of litterbox has been the most irksome part of setting up a bunny home by far. I had to buy three different-sized litterboxes – one was much too big, one too small and I finally got the one I’m currently employing literally hours before Panda and Fernando arrived home – but it now appears that litterbox is still not quite the right size for both bunnies, even small ones such as my fluffball housemates.  So back to the drawing board. From what I have seen so far this week, I think what I actually need is a plastic container/box that’s no more than 15″/16″ wide so that it can fit through the access door if turned diagonally a bit, but needs to be long enough to accommodate both rabbits. The current one is, I think, 19″-20″, so something at least 4 inches longer, maybe? 24″ long or even up to 29″? (The condo is 29″ wide so the box can’t be longer than that.)

Anyone know of a suitable container with those dimensions?

Can you do multiple boxes instead of just one? This may also help with getting them through the door of the condo, so just putting two side to side. I’d perhaps go to a local store of yours and browse the plastic storage bin and organization supplies! There are so many sizes and styles of those things, so hopefully you’ll find some good sizes for the condo.

Hmmmmm…giving each bun one of their own? That could work. I’ll have to get some measurements.

IKEA is amazing for suitable boxes if there’s one nearby. As are restaurant supply stores – busboy boxes are often fab.

Those I can get at Walmart – I don’t know if they have the size I want there, but it can’t hurt to look. Q8, if I’d thought about that, I’d have looked for one at IKEA when I was there last weekend to get my buns’ play rug. The local store is about half an hour’s drive away, so we’ll see.
