        …when it’s got head tilt. >_<

Picked up some sort of inner ear flu in the last few days. Every time I turn over in bed or don’t take time for my balance to adjust in moving about, I get severe vertigo. Since it was sudden onset, I went to see my NP at my oncology office (I never take a sudden symptom lightly) but she did all my neuro tests and said I was probably just ill with a bug.

So I’m stuck with dramamine once a day until it goes away. Even though it’s the less drowsy formula, I am soooo sleeepppyyyy. Good thing I can take it on an empty tum, because I do not feel like eating.

I had the spins so bad the other night I had to grab onto the wall for support, thought I’d roll mysefl right out of my bed! 0_o I think I’d rather have a head cold than this stuff…yuck! (although it does bring with it a rather dull headache that never goes away…bleah)

Anyone out there have good tips for dealing with this kind of flu? Have you had this flu? What did you do for it?

I get vertigo when I have inner ear infections a lot. But only had a long lasting one once. I had it for over a year once in high school. It’s torture! I would be walking and all of a sudden it was like I was walking on an angle and if I didn’t grab something I would tumble over.

I don’t have any advice on how to deal with it other than to move slowly when you start to feel the spin. It can get dangerous if you are around things like glass and have nothing to grab onto. I ended up with a broken rib from falling into the back of a kitchen chair trying to grab it.

I was told to lie down with my head propped up when it would hit but that only made it worse for me.

I was reading up on BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo) and that’s where I saw the suggestion about sleeping on a 45 degree angled stack of pillows at night. It does help, but then I don’t sleep well almost sitting straight up like that, so I still have to lie flat and when I come up it hits me like a mack truck.
Ouch…breaking a rib on the chair…you poor thing…and having it for a year?? Jeez, I am done with it after three-four days already….MAKE IT STOP! >.<
I worry about hitting something with my head or just plain falling down while I am outside walking the dog. Luckily, once I get upright and going, I seem to be able to function okay, but every once in awhile I’ll feel myself whirling.
I hope it passes soon. I hate how weak it seems to make me.

It’s so yucky being sick in the summer. Not sure if it’s the same sort of thing you have but a couple of years ago I had a really bad ear infection. I was totally deaf in one ear and super dizzy. I pretty much slept till it went away because it was so irritating when I was awake.

Hope you feel better soon. (((((((Mimzmum))))))

Thanks, LPT. Yeah, it’s worse again today and my Dramamine isn’t helping quite as well. Both me and the hubby seem to have a case of it, he’s not feeling great either.
My ears seem fine, it’s just my balance center that’s not working right. And I have to go in with my daughter tomorrow to get her estimate on a molar removal…ugh…this is going to make riding with hubby’s driving a touch less tolerable. >.< :X
Bleah…haven’t felt this queasy since I was pregnant with my son. 0_o

Aww MimzM, I’m sorry this is happening! I’ve had little bouts of vertigo from low blood pressure. If I get up too quickly I’m like whooooooooooa nellybell!

One time I found myself on the floor without remembering how I got there. HUGE green bruise over my entire left knee, because I apparently landed on it.

Then one time I sneezed, got the major dizzies and careened into these two girls in Super Target. I apologized endlessly, but they still looked at me like I was a total spaz!

                  … which I am.

Sorry to laugh, Lizzy but that’s pretty funny to picture!

I have glue ear, it started in one ear and I found myself tipping my head that way and now it is in the other so not a lot of fun. I know how you feel if I move two quick I get dizy and feel a bit sick not fun at all.

Glue ear? I know I’ve heard of that, but never thought it was a real illness. *goes to look it up*
Ah. Wiki says it’s associated with otitis media (chronic earache)…I had lots of earaches as a kid, but always had really good hearing despite it. Plus my hearing is not really impaired now, nor do I have pain in the ear per se. AV, can you describe any other symptoms or send me a good link to pursue to see how this could be tied to vertigo?

Of course, in cancer patients, we have to be careful of things like bone or brain mets. I would be terrified to think this is what it is…but this article gives me hope that maybe it’s just caused by some other infection the nurse wasn’t properly able to gauge. I do tend to have a small snack before bedtime, then even though I sit up for about an hour, I often wind up with reflux (I usually have to have something on my stomach for most medications-but sometimes it backfires) so maybe things are getting belched back into my Eustachian tubes and that’s what’s causing my problem.

Lizzy…you poor thing. Never mind the pain that must have caused but also, if something like that happened to me in public I’d be mortified…”Did anyone just see me do that??” 0_o

Considering that Mimzy has some kind of ultra dry skin on his ear tips, I am wondering if any bunny ear diseases are communicable to humans? 0_o

MimzMum – the reason is it tied to vertigo is because all my sinus is blocked with fluids and your inner ear helps with blance and can’t adjust for rapid movement, that is what my dr told me anyway.

Thanks AV. Wow, I would never have thought that something in the sinuses could cause dizziness. 0_o I usually just get a bad headache from sinus fluid.

Well, I tried the Epley maneuvers again this morning. (you hold your head at a 45 degree angle in one direction, then swing it quickly the opposite way to throw the ‘otoliths’ in your inner ear back to where they belong…now I can say I really have rocks in my head…bwahaha!) and it’s doing a bit better today. I wasn’t so bad with turning over in bed last night either. So thankies for the vibes!

I was really ready to go completely out of my mind there for awhile if it didn’t let up. No Dramamine today. Keeping my fingers crossed.

There is this great stuff called FEES that is a spray for your nose, the standard is good but the new continous spray one is better really does help clear everything out.
