Not pooping

 Today I noticed that Benny had significantly less poop in his litter box than Beans did. I always check on them, but I just haven’t been thinking about checking their boxes. Their litter boxes have both been in there for a few days. So I don’t know if Benny pooped one day, and hasn’t been pooping at all, or if he hasn’t been pooping as much in general.

I took him out and set him up a temporary cage so I can watch him better (it’s so difficult searching for poops that missed the litter box in his huge cage with dark bedding!) He’s been in there for about 5 hours and done nothing. He has been eating as much as normal in the last days as far as I can tell, and has eaten a lot of hay and a large baby carrot since being in the temporary cage. No poo and no pee. 

 

I’m really nervous. I will take him to the vet if I need to.

Is there any veggies that I could give him with fiber to try and make him go? Please give any advice you can.

Also, he’s only 3 pounds, so he doesn’t eat that much. He’s acting normal otherwise. And let’s me push on his belly (not hard, but to feel for any lumps or something). I don’t feel their stomachs that often, but it feels like I would expect it to.

Your bunny should be seen by a vet- I don’t think any vegetable or greens will treat or cure the GI issue your bunny is having with not pooing as much.

5 hours really isn’t enough time to know if he’s pooping – my bunnies will hold it for 10 hours sometimes.

However, if you think he hasn’t pooped much in the past few days, that defeinitely deserves a vet visit.

I’m not totally sure. There IS poop in his litter box, just maybe half as much as Beans.
I’m really scared. Should I take him to the vet tomorrow morning?

It’s been 6 hours now.

Would he start acting weird if he was feeling bad? He’s acting totally normal, and I’m watching him really closely.

I would plan on a vet visit tomorrow, but if you wake up and there are a bunch more poops then I would hold off.

Do you have any critical care? I find force feeding some of that seems to help and it at least helps me feel better. My vets can’t really do anything unless the bunny has totally stopped eating and pooping altogether, so you may want to call your vet and see what they recommend in the mean time.

 When I first brought my bunny home I thought he wasn’t pooping at all for the first two/three days. I then realized he was eating his poop. Sounds gross, but I think it has something to do with not enough fibre in the diet, and I think possibly could be stress related. My rabbit can also go 12 hours without pooping at all. If he is eating normally then I wouldn’t be too worried unless you know for sure he hasn’t pooped at all. Just clean out his litter box and monitor his eating and check for new poops. If things aren’t improving, then I agree that syringe/spoon feeding critical care can help get the gut moving. If he stops eating altogether then there is a problem!

Leyley, how is Benny today? Did he resume normal potty routines or did you end up taking him to the vet?

Oh, gosh. I totally forgot I ever made this thread! I’m so sorry!

I put him in a temporary small cage where I could keep track of poos better. After a while he did start pooping. He was eating fine. He’s been totally fine and pooping normal sense then. Maybe he just got a bit backed up

I am glad that Benny is OK now.  It is good that you were able to notice right away that there might be an issue and monitor him closely.

One of our foster rabbits (Cali) would do this sometimes.  We’d clean her pen and then 8 hours later nothing in the litterbox.  I would start to worry, we’d let her out for run time, and she would start making marking poops all over the place.  I think she was saving them!

My bunny hasn’t pooped all day. She didn’t show interest in last night’s dinner salad and zero interest in breakfast pellets. I’ve syringed some cranberry juice for her a few times throughout today. I’ve dunked some romaine in water and offered it to her, which she ate. I’ve marked the water level of her bottle, which she hasn’t drank from and is VERY inactive—not her usual self. She’s spent most of today in her bedroom (I was up at 5am monitoring her) and now (it’s 6pm) she’s finally out and sitting next to her litter box but still no poop and not eating her timothy. I hope she will make it through the night.
