I am so so so sorry for all the overly anxious posts about the spay, but I’ve never done this before and I’m literally  freaking out. The vet said that she was eating well before we brought her home. We got home and she ate some pellets, she ate veggies but slowly, and she refuses point blank to eat hay. I’ve been searching the Internet and I’ve found posts where some people say it’s normal and some people say it’s not. If she’s still not eating hay in the morning I’m going to bring her to the vet, but until then I can’t really do anything. From your experiences, has this happened before and what was the outcome?

Don’t panic! It’s good that she’s eating anything at all, because most females will refuse to eat and will just sit there for a while. I often had to hand feed my bun because she just didn’t want to move.

The best thing to do is place some hay where she’s lying down. Eventually, when she feels like it, she’ll probably nibble at it. Accessibility is the key! She might just ignore it, but giving her the option to just wiggle towards it will definitely make things easier for her.

Thanks for the ideas. I put a bit of hay everywhere so she could get to it, at one point I was literally shoving it in her face because I was so frustrated? someone gave me an idea to mix some hay with a piece of banana, and it kind of worked, she only ate a bit. It’s progress thou th

That’s great news! You’ll find that she’ll eat more in the coming days, so as lkng as she’s eating anything at all, your bun is absolutely fine.

Also, the banana idea is great. I used that to administer her medicine, since I hated sticking the syringe in her mouth.

I haven’t seen her drink any water yet though, should I give it to her in a syringe? I’m a bit anxious to hold her at all though as she must be very sensitive right now.

She was given fluids at the vets, that’s why she’s not drinking much. Plus if she doesn’t eat much hay, she doesn’t need much water. Has she peed?

Do go ahead and ask all the questions you want, it’s perfectly normal to be nervous when your bun has had surgery.

                  How is she doing now?

She’s been eating hay all day, she’s had a bit of water but not much. She’s peeing ok. She seem almost like her old self again. And don’t worry this is the first place I come to If I have questions?. Although th I probably won’t need anymore help because she’s doing so well. She has a check up on Monday too

Sounds like it’s all going well ^_^ I’m so happy it turned out okay, and I totally understand your concern for your little boo.

I’m back! Another problem has arisen,so of course I came here. I’m very aware that she should be prevented from jumping anywhere incase the stitches fall out, but as I mentioned she’s practically gone back to her old self ,maybe a bit too much so. I took as much stuff as I could out of her shed so she has less things to jump on, but she still finds a way around that. She jumps on her hay box, she jumps on her hidey house (which I had to take out then), she jumps on the windowsill ledge which I literally cannot block off. I really don’t know what I should do, as she clearly doesn’t feel any pain when she does this, but I’m terrified that something could happen when Im sleeping and everything goes wrong.
