Not drinking/peeing much

Hi, new member & fairly new to rabbits as well. 

I got my rabbit about 2 weeks ago & noticed right from the start she didn’t drink very much water at all. I didn’t pay much attention to how often she was peeing but every time I’ve cleaned out her litter box, the litter pellets were moist, so I wasn’t concerned about it at first.

Last Wednesday, I took her to the vet to be spayed. She’s been recovering fairly well thus far. She eats normally, her poops are good (normal size, shape, colour) but she still isn’t drinking very much. She likes to sit in the litter box, so I’ve been cleaning it daily while she recovers from her spay just to make sure her incision doesn’t get infected from sitting in the litter. Anyway, I’ve noticed over the last couple days, she’s only peeing maybe once a day. It’s a good amount of pee and she doesn’t seem to be straining or in pain when she does go but does that seem normal? 

I’ve never had a rabbit before so it seems weird to me that she doesn’t drink much water or pee very often.

When you give her veggies rinse them as you should always, but don’t dry them off…….it might give her more water. Best of luck?

Yep, I always make sure her veggies are wet. She also has a water bottle and a small crock of water. She seems to ignore the crock but I leave it in there anyway. I’ve also checked the bottle multiple times to make sure the water is flowing through properly. 

She just finished her last syringe of Metacam the vet gave me for after her spay. I’ve tried to give her water a few times with the syringe. Sometimes she will drink it, but most of the time she grabs it with her teeth and pushes it away. So I can only assume she doesn’t want any water.

You may want to try putting a bit of pineapple juice in the water. Its controversial because of the sugars but if you can find a kind with no added sugars and artificial flavors it may be worth a shot. And obviously only putting a bit in to “enhance flavor”. That was suggested to me to put in my buns Critical Care and he ate it up after that.

My rabbit is not a big water drinker either…he does pee an adequate amount though – I can tell when I clean his litter box. My rabbit has a water bowl.
