My bunny Ella had what I think was a mildish stasis for about a week. Though she has been eating and pooping now for about a week she is still not drinking water and has been peeing very very little. Her behavior is still normal. She is stretching out and flopping happily and also running laps and binkying. I have been doing my best to syringe water and also keep her veggies really wet. She has both the option of a bowl and a bottle. She eventually starts to fight the syringe so I only give her as much as she wants. Probably only syringing 20 ml a day which I know is no where near enough.
On Friday morning (yesterday) we went to the vet. Everything looked healthy and the vet did not feel anything wrong from palpating her tummy and bladder and other examining. Her teeth looked great and her gums showed that she was still well hydrated. They gave her subq fluids even though she was hydrated and last night she had a couple good pees from it. Today, she has barely peed again.
The vet suggested pedialyte, fruity water, mixing apple-banana critical care with a lot of water, wet veggies, and to continue syringing water. I asked a time frame for when we should come back to the vet if she is still not drinking/peeing and she said early next week, Monday or Tuesday. If that happens, I think they would then do blood work, urinalysis maybe, and possibly an x-ray (?) I’m not totally sure if this is what they would do. I really do not want to take her back because it will be her 4th vet visit in two weeks! I know how stressful it is for her.
The vet said that since she is recovering from stasis, she could be getting enough hydration but her gut is using it all so there is not much pee.
She mentioned that this is not unusual for a bunny that is recovering from stasis so I was wondering if anyone had similar experiences with their bunnies after coming back from GI stasis.
How long before he/she started to drink on their own and pee again?
Any tricks that worked best for your buns?
After two weeks of this, I am ready for my bunny to be back to 100%!!!!
Edit: There is also no signs that she is in pain. She isn’t hunched up besides her usual loafing, she isn’t grinding her teeth in pain, she is not straining on the litter box to pee and does not seem to be in any pain when she is in her litter box. She just munches on some hay like always!
