Mr. Berry Potter hates to get his nails trimmed. I just trimmed his nails. He was squirming and trying to get away. He also nipped me once. I could tell that by the end of it he was terrified. He was breathing rapidly and his heart was beating fast. I felt terrible. Is there something I should be doing to make this process easier for both of us?

I have a rabbit that completely freaks out if you try moving him on his back at all, so I google how to trim rabbit nails when I got him and this link above is the one I found works best for my bun.

So basically you settle them down somewhere comfortable, and get them settled then carefully lift up the front paw from the ground and trim it without lifting the rest of his body, and repeat for second paw.

I found it easier to circle onto the other side of my bun and do the farthest paw each time for the front.

Then for the back legs you lift his upper body and hug it to you in a way he feels secure, then take the first back leg and if you sorta wiggle it the bun usually relaxes said paw and let’s it get pulled out to a angle so he is resting it on his heel and then trim it like that

Replace foot back solidly on ground and carefully pull other foot out and trim that one. I sometimes find it easier to again circle around and get the bunny comfortable against me on the opposite side of his body so it’s easier to see the paw.

Other rabbits like to get laid down on your lap with a blanket coveting their face to calm them down instead

And if your rabbit gets fidgety give him a break and a treat to calm him down!

So yeah it really depends on the rabbit but I find most fidgety buns I’ve owned really hate going on their back for any reason so first one usually works best for me at least

I guess I can try just giving him a break. I try to use the technique described in the video but he doesn’t like me holding him on his back legs.

Hmm. I suppose he doesn’t like being on his back either huh?

Looked through more videos and found this one

This guy kinda lifts up their belly a bit and one foot and trims the back feet like thay while their front feet remain in the ground.

But yeah other then that I guess just give him breaks and treats between trimming to help him associate trimming with food
