Ok I just bought my first NIC for a condo for Fern. I was going to build it and I was wondering what you guys use for the flooring for your NIC condos.  I want something safe and easy and not too expensive. Any ideas? I cannot belive myself how exited I am about getting NIC, Haha it is so funny.

I went to Home Depot and got a remnant of linoleum. I don’t remember how much it cost but it wasn’t expensive.

i’d second linoleum, easy to clean up and virtually indestructible as long as the edges are outisde of the bunny condo.

where did you get the NIC grids? just a warning, Target has changed theirs and they are pretty much worthless now.

Yes I know about the target changing the cubes thing. I got the last of the “Good ones” and I was very pleased with myself because I had gotten the last two. Also do you think it is ok if the NIC are made out of chrome and do not have a plastic coating on it? Thats what mine are like. I think they look fine and some bunny cages do not have plastic coating on them so I think it is fine.

I used to use the connectors, but the cubes would always fall apart and they ended up being more of a frustration than anything else – its worth taking the time to just do a good zip tie job.

I also used linoleum as a floor protector, and then on most floors, I zip tied some carpeting to the floor as well so the bunnies have something nice to sit on. Sometimes they can slide around on the linoleum, and both Juli and Henri have fallen down on their backs when they slid on the linoleum while jumping up to the second floor, so I always have rugs in the “landing” and “take-off” areas.

I think that the chrome is fine, I would watch out for any areas that they pee on or get wet though because I’m not sure if the chrome would corrode? (I’m no chemist ) but thats the only thing I would anticipate as a problem…does anyone else know?
