i’m generally not a resolution-maker, but this year i decided i would. i have two.

one, i need to decide what i want to be “when i grow up” and then enroll in school by the time i’m thirty (october, yikes!).

two, i want to learn how to read music and play the piano. i have a high-quality keyboard that i used to play by ear when i was younger. i took it out and dusted it off, and hopefully i will learn.

anyone else making resolutions? happy new year

Those sound like nice resolutions.  Have fun with it.

Haven’t made resolutions since I was in my 20’s.  For 2 years I said I will be happier than I was last year and for both years I got rear ended shortly after.  Ruined 2 cars.  So I decided it is too scary.   lol

The piano.  That sounds like something really nice to pursue. It is really cool when I go to someones house who has a piano and plays.  Haven’t been anywhere like that for years. It was really nice.  Enjoy yourself

Woah! Sleepy, we pretty much have the same resolutions. Lol

I’m not one for NY resolutions either but I did think of a few this time. Pretty much things I’d been resolving to do for ages anyway…

Eat better. As in more regular meals and healthier choices. I haven’t eaten meat (except fish) for over a year now but I haven’t eaten wisely to make sure I get everything I need nutritionally. So I REALLY need to work on that.

Become more organized. Get better with routines, especially cleaning. Indoor rabbits combined with a procrastinating human makes a very messy, cluttered household.

Be more active about finding a better occupation. Try identify what energises me.

Reconnect with music. Just listening too it more. I used to a lot but that’s been lost. I’m starting to again…

I’ve always loved piano music too and I learnt a little when younger. I’m utterly hopeless though. Haha. There’s always room for improvement right?
So that’s more of a dabble/have fun thing. I don’t have any great aspirations there. I have neither the talent or dedication. I’d just like to teach myself some pieces. Maybe take some lessons again, see where it goes.

Sleepy, I collected a keyboard right before Christmas. It had been floating around among family members. I haven’t even plugged it in yet! I’m not really a fan of them but will have to do for now. I’d prefer a digital piano with weighted keys or the real deal. I don’t think I could justify buying either though. If I had faith that i could really apply myself and become better I’d maybe consider treating myself with one. ; )

ETA: I forgot one. Focus on doing some bonding work with the rabbits. That got delayed when I took in some fosters at beginning of 2012.

jersey, i have another similarity for you! i haven’t eaten meat in about fifteen years, but i never was conscious of my food intake. i’ve been doing better with it of late though. good luck!

what do you do now, work-wise? or are you in school?

I resolve to over the course of the year give up all the hate I have for my ex. Our relationship ended badly, and took me a long time to get over, and there is still a lot of bitterness on my part toward him. I know I will be much happier over all if I can manage to do this.

                      Absolutely. Great resolution FFM.

Sleepy, currently I have part time work doing some baking for a cafe after hours. I’m not a baker by any stretch of the imagination! I was just the person willing to do it. Lol.
This was to be a temporary job for me but its been 2 years now. :/
I’m a trained dental technician and worked in that industry for 6 years. I’ve been out if it longer then I was in it now.
I’ve also done care work and domestic in aged care.

I’ve considered going back to study many times but have trouble identifying what I’d like to do.

I don’t have any resolutions.. if I want to do something, I just do it

I am having fun cooking and burning stuff.. that is what cooking is all about, learning

So, for me, it would be to make more wonderful, healthy, filling food.

ffm, i hope you can accomplish that this year.

                            I love reading everybody’s resolutions!

My first is to train my puppy. I really enjoy training, and learning about training theory, etc, so I’m excited to work with him. He’s had 8 weeks of puppy classes and starts his next obedience class on Monday for 5 weeks. After that, I’m not sure what direction we go (though I’m sure the instructors will help). I’d like to get involved with agility, obedience, and rally (not sure if I want to actually compete in all of these, but I’d like to train for them and compete in at least one). I also promised my breeder I would enter him in conformation shows, so we need to get into a class for that. There are so many things I want to do with him and it’s really exciting. Now he just needs to get over his teenager brain and start focusing a little better. Haha.

My second resolution is to grow my garden. I got a small start last year, and I want to make it bigger and better.

Third is to do more work on my house. We’ve been there almost a year and a half now and there are so many small and cheap things we can do, like finish painting, hang some more curtains, hang pictures, etc and I want to get those done. This is also the year to start saving for the bigger projects, like wood floors and a new master bathroom!

Fourth is go on more vacations. We didn’t do much last year because of house and puppy expenses, so I want to do more this year. We still don’t have the money for any big trips, but if we put in the planning effort we can do lots of fun things close to home. On my list are Maine (want to spend a week in a rental house with friends), the Finger Lakes (rent a house for a wine tasting weekend with friends), Martha’s Vineyard/Nantucket, and maybe PEI.

Well, I’d like to read more books and watch less TV. That has been my resolution for the past few years. I got lots of books that need reading!

                                  That’s easy!
Get rid of the tv  We don’t have a tv and haven’t had one in 7 years. I get my news from the radio and the online newspapers. However, I do miss the times when I would work out in front of the tv. I had a long period, where I only allowed myself to watch tv if I worked out meanwhile – I did a ton of exercise those months (and watched a whole lot of series too!)

I have plenty of resolutions for this year!

                                  1. Save up money for a diploma in couple’s therapy. I wan’t to be my own boss, and I think couple’s therapy might be it
                                  2. Get to know more people here where I live.
                                  3. Say no much more often. I have been diagnosed with a Functional Neurological Disorder at the end of last year, so this year I am going to be as stress-free as possible, meaning being completely true to myself.
                                  4. …exercise more! I am looking to buy a cross fit machine
                                  5. Find time to enjoy the bunnies again. It has been a while since I have felt connected to them.

No particular books Elrohwen, just any of the many many paperback books that I own will do :~) Last year I vowed to read one a month – I did not succeed in that goal – I read some but not as many as I wanted to.

Yeah, I could get rid of the TV but I don’t want too right now. I know that is the problem.

I know some people have a rule at home, where they have to – in advance – mark in the tv-guide what they want to see during the week. Also, they have to make an argument for it. The tv is then only turned on when the programme begins and turned off afterwards. That way, they don’t end up just watching everything because the tv is on. Perhaps that would help? Or perhaps your books are just not interesting enough?

We have to pay a national fee for owning a tv and/or radio, and I refuse to do so from a political point of view, so that is why I got rid of the tv in the first place. They come and knock on our door now and then to check if it is true we don’t own a tv, and I am a bad liar, so it was just easier for me to get rid of it. Once I had been without it for a while, I realised that I actually didn’t miss anything on tv.

Really, that is interesting Karla – a fee for owning a TV or radio? What about a computer?

I only had basic TV until 2009 when everything went digital and then I got cable and well, I guess since I didn’t have cable I got hooked on TV at that time and got lazy when it came to reading. Eventually I’ll get back to the good old days of reading :~) My husband however is not a reader and always has the TV on and I really have no say in that as I cannot make him a reader.

Well, I can imagine it is easy to get hooked. I visited a friend two years ago, who lives in the UK. She has 300 tv channels. For the 3 days I visited her, I don’t think my eyes moved from the tv at all  Tv is so much more relaxing than reading – in many ways. Did you know that you actually burn more calories sititng in the couch reading than watching tv? That is really interesting (and strange), I think.

Well, it used to be for only owning a tv and a radio. Then 2 years ago, the govenment changed it into “multimedia devices”, meaning that if you have theoretical access to the internet from a device, then you can theoretically watch tv and then have to pay the fee. Last night, actually the control was here to check on us, and he was also asking if we owned a smart phone, a computer et.c. I pay our radio fee because we do listen to the national radio, but I refuse to pay a fee for owning a mobile or a computer. If you own a multimedia device of any kind, you have to pay 420 USD a year.

Sorry, completely OT. This is just something that I feel very strongly about, so I can rant about it for hours. Will stop now

Wow, that is a ridiculously high fee! I paid less than that in car taxes per year when I lived in Connecticut (for both of our cars).
