Unfortunetly my panda orandas did not live very long, and I was a bit ticked off with my fish guys because he then told me that they are genetically weaker due to their coloration … One of them got a strange swelling on his cheaks and it did not respond to bacteria, fungus or parasite medicine and I lost him a few days ago. They also did not grow at all even though they were eating well. I lost the other yesterday. Very strange that they were the only 2 I’ve lost. Anyways I digress, I went to petsmart where luckily the fish guy there takes great care of their tanks and I got 2 decent sized orandas for 5.99 but my large one was 30$, which is still a deal because that size is worth at least $50.

This is the large calico I have been drooling over him for 3 weeks now and no one had bought him. I guess he was suppsed to come home with me. I think it’s a male, I’m not positive though. Name suggestions??

The two other orandas here are a type of calico, but lighter shades. I will have to look up what they call that coloration.

Does anyone have any reccomendations on how to take pictures of fish lol? I don’t like what my tank looks like with the flash on and without it the fish are so blurry since they are always moving!

Thanks for looking at my fishies I just love them

Fishy fishies! I am not much of a goldfish fan but I have always loved orandas. I really like the big calico one.

If the fishy is a boy…maybe call him Nemo? How on earth do you tell? I mean, wouldn’t it have to be pregnant for you to conclude it’s a girl? 0_o

They’re purty! ^_^ Sorry to hear about the ones who passed away. After losing Shimmer a few years ago, I was reminded of when my first goldfish passed away and nothing will make me put up a tank again, but I do love looking at other people’s setups. There’s a lovely one in the waiting room to my doctor’s office…lots of angelfish, which are my favorites.

A fish tank is so soothing to watch too. No more calming pet…until you have to clean the tank, however. >.<

                Thanks Mimz!!

You actually can’t really tell until they are ready to breed! The easiest way for me to tell is that the males get white dots on their gills called tubercles and the females sort of protrude from their bum area, they call it a vent.  I think he is a bit too young to want to breed yet but I just have a feeling he is a he!! lol

                      Congrats on the new fishies!!

For some reason when I glanced as your post title I read “New Orleans” and thought it would be a post about a vacation. I was certainly surprised to see fish! lol

Aw sorry you had bad luck with your other fishies! I think Nemo is cute or Marlin for that big guy! I think I told you this before but I have a lil orange and white goldfish and he has a orange upper lip and for some reason the name Mr.Magoo jumped out so that what I named him!

I had a beta once, named bio-hazard because he lived in a giant science beaker! lol

Hmmmm names… What about Orleans!  Elrohwen thought that would be a good one!

HAhaha, I wish I was on vacation! Classes start up for me on Wednesday T_T bleh.

I decided to name my fish all after transformers. My big dude is Optimus Prime. Which works well since I use prime to condition my water!
