Just thought you guys would like to hear, over the weekend I added a guinea pig to the Zeus Kingdom.

She’s adoreable, only 2 months old.  All white, but her face is half black and half brown, it’s really cute.  She’s an abyssinian(sp?), so has the crazy swirly hair.  I’ve named her Zephyr (aka Zephy).. who was the god of the Western winds.  It’s a small tribute to my sweet West girl.

I had piggies for a long time growing up, and I didn’t realize how much I enjoyed having them, and missed them, until now.  She popcorns and makes her little wheeking sounds when she’s excited, they’re just very funny little creatures.  Very entertaining.

I’m very happy to have her in my home.  I’ll try to get pics soon, right now she spends most of her time in her hidey house because she’s still getting used to her surroundings.  She’s already getting more adventurous though, the young ones adapt so quickly!

Aww! I have always loved guinea pigs! PICS NOW! haha.

I have hear guinea pigs are very social creatures with other pigs and should never be housed with out another pig. Are you going to get another one?

Congrats! I can’t wait to see pictures. We had a guinea pig/rabbit pair for adoption out here a while ago. They were the sweetest couple. Maybe Zeus will like the new piggy.

I’m not sure on getting another yet, but I’ve always had my piggies as solo pets, and they’ve always done ok.  I think they’re kind of like bunnies, as long as you give them a lot of attention they’re ok with just their human as their companion.

I definitely won’t be letting piggie and Zeus hang out together, unless they want to sniff through the baby gate when piggie’s getting out of cage time in the bathroom.  Zeus would squish her like a bug on accident.

mocha, I think that is a lot like people say bunnies are social and HAVE to have another one. I had a solo piggie when I was younger and he was a happy little fella, he loved attention. And my friend got a second because she heard that they have to have a friend and they don’t even like each other, so she’s had two guineas that have different needs for two years. lol

                PICS

Awhhhh I can’t wait to see pics!

I’ve owned guinea pigs in the past, my sister currently has a boy piggie. We tried introducing him to the rabbits and he made cooing sounds, trying to following them and the rabbits grunted so we took him away. He’s an old man so we’re not going to try again.

mocha200: That’s what we thought before we had piggies but if you clean their cage regularly (like once a week) they don’t smell.

Hi, I saw your post on Guineapigcages.com today. Piggies definitely need friends. We have had piggies for a couple of years now and we’re new to bunnies. Bunnies most certainly love humans (for the most part), but piggies (for the most part) would rather you leave them alone… Bonded piggies bring the best out in each other. Like bunnies, piggies should be introduced, preferably at a rescue, so they can find one your piggy gets along with. One of my piggies recently passed and his friend has become SO skittish, his buddy was very social and made him brave, and helped him tolerate us.

Welcome to guinea pigs, they are pretty awesome! And consider getting yours a friend. It makes a world of difference to them.

Guinea pigs live in herds and are extremely social. Sure they do ok solo, but they really thrive with a buddy or two. I always had more than one pig when I had them.

I can’t wait for pics! I’d love to get pigs again

Congrats! I love the name. I’m a big mythology fan.

                              Looking forward to pictures!

I had piggies in high school. That was actually my 16th birthday present: two little boy piggies. One was an abyssinian and he had a big, crazy mohawk so I named him Gibson after my favourite guitar brand. I enjoyed having piggies. They loved to go outside and eat grass for hours. Their little sounds were so cute! I’ll never forget the “BOUI BOUI BOUI” every time they heard the crisper opening or something being chopped on the cutting board. They loved my Dad because he always gave them treats and whenever they heard him near my room they would “Boui”.

Thanks for the input guys!  I’ll definitely get pics asap.  I keep trying to snap one, but she dives into her house every time I try to get a pic. .

At the moment I don’t have room to expand her cage to make it big enough for two piggies, so it’ll have to wait for awhile.  But hopefully within the next few months I’ll be moving, and then will have enough room for another piggie.

                                  No pig-tures of your guinea-pig yet…?
                                  I used to have 2 guinea-pigs in a 2×4 C&C cage.
They were lovely. One was nearly as inteligent as my cat if not more intelligent.
