I am new here and tried to post in the “welcome” section, but it kept giving me an error.

I found myself here when reading up on how to get my newest bun to do the doo in his litterbox instead of leaving them evvvvverywhere.

This guy is a foster, I have no idea on age or background. He was reported to the local Humane Society when he showed up at someone’s flowerbeds, (in town) and was obviously not a wild rabbit. I was called by the HS to catch him. I’m embarassed to say it took me FOUR WEEKS to finally get him, but now, he is here with me.

He was a total freak the first day….. I was concerned that his time “in the wild” made him exactly that….. wild. He was dehydrated, and hungry. He isn’t emaciated, but he’s definitely a little boney. One of his ears has a large (old) tear in it, where it almost appears he was maybe tagged at one time and it was ripped out.

It didn’t take him long to calm down (he’s been here just 3 days) and he is excited to see me, waiting for me to let him out of the cage to run around ”his” room (a spare bedroom with no other people/pets) and will hop up to me and nose bump me, and climb up in my lap. He is half and half with petting. Sometimes he enjoys it, sometimes he hurries away as if I’ve startled him.

I named him after the street I caught him on….. Morgan. I have NO idea what kind of rabbit he is, I do know he’s much larger than any mini rex, lop, or lionhead I’ve ever had.

So anyway, I look forward to being a member of this community….. I have fostered many animals, rabbits included, but this guy, I was bonded to before I ever laid a hand on him, because I spent weeks worrying about him, knowing he was out there in the elements during rains, winds, and cold nights, and it was up to only me to get him safe. So I’m considering adopting him as my own instead of fostering him for the HS.

Sounds like he was a lucky bun to find someone so concerned about him without even “officially” meeting him. Welcome !

Welcome!!! He was so lucky to be caught by you heehee even if he was so elusive And don’t worry, even though he did spend time out in the wild domesticated breeds of rabbits are very different from the wild bunnies you see outside, even considered a different species. Totoro was a stray and he is one of the sweetest bunnies I have met, maybe they are more grateful to have food and shelter? Can’t wait to see some pics of him! I’m sure he’d love to be adopted by you (sorry I’m not really helping ;P)

Thanks, Stickerbunny! Happy to be here.

Bunnyfriend, thanks! He did give me a run for my money. I spent the first two weeks trying to catch him in person. Figured out pretty quick that a rabbit is much faster, smarter, and has more hiding places than I ever could, in a residential neighborhood. Seems this particular neighborhood is full of people that are proud of their landscaping, and flowerbeds and big bushes and trees, and big wooden decks and pool decks…. We ended up having to use a live trap. Caught a couple squirrels first…. lol

He really did calm quickly. I’m sure his freakish behavior the first day was pure fear from having spent 4 weeks (minimum) surviving, and then suddenly being trapped in a cage.

Here are some pics I’ve taken of him…..

Day 1, scared stiff…. I snapped a quick pic before putting him from the trap to his cage

Day 2, him in his way too small cage. I have a bigger one, its just not set up yet.

Day 2, hoppin’ around the room. I let Waldo, our house “greeter” in to see him, and he really seemed to like the kitty. (probably sayin’ “I’m bigger than you, kitty. Watch yourself!”)

The night we trapped him, it was down to 28 degrees. I’m so glad he’s here!

I don’t know what breed he is but he’s absolutely gorgeous! That colouring!

I’m so glad you were able to catch him. So many dangers out there for a little bunny. I can relate to the frustration. I spent a good couple of weeks trying to catch 2 baby bunnies who were “let out to be wild” on a nearby farm. Unfortunately, there was only a happy ending for one of the bunnies.

I’m glad you found your way to BB. This is a great community with so many knowledgeable members. I’m made many wonderful friends here. Looking forward to hearing more updates and seeing lots more pics of Morgan.

bunnyfriend…. His dirty feets really do stand out against the white of the rest of him. lol. I was surprised the rest of him was as clean as he was when I saw him.

Thanks, bwild! We kinda think so too.

LittlePuffyTails…. It’s disgusting how many people think it’s ok to release domestics. This guy is bunny #3 that I responded to as a “stray” through the Humane Society in about a year’s time. Bunny #2 was never caught. I felt absolutely awful about his case, and still wonder what ever happened to him. I don’t understand why people think it’s ok to just let them go. We see it with cats especially, but I’ve also had the rabbits, a ferret, several domestic ducks dumped at our local park, and even a domestic pigeon that sadly was too far gone by the time I got him. It’s a sad position to clean up irresponsible pet owners’ messes. /end rant, sorry. It’s a hot topic for me.

myleen…. from one newbie to another…. Welcome!
