Hi everyone my name is Suka and I’m new here. I’ve been lurking on here and on HRS since I got my first bunny Harlow about 3 weeks ago and I now have another bunny, Walker. Harlow free roams during the day and Walker is caged. Neither are fixed as of yet which is why Walker stays caged. I had a few questions regarding walker, though. They have pretty large water bottles (about 8″ x 2.5″) the second largest you can buy at petco. I notice he doesn’t drink as much as Harlow and he has a visible underbite so today I decided to check his teeth. Since Harlow hates her mouth being touched I have nothing to compare it to but I wanted to show y’all a photo and get your opinion on whether he needs his teeth filed or not. He was given to me by a breeder and came from outdoor cages with wire bottoms and like 8 litter mates crammed on the cage with him. The breeder only breeds for show purposes and I was more than happy to take him from that situation. How do I post a pic of his teeth?

The way I do it is save a picture to your computer and then go to attachments at the bottom and click on the one that adds it then click upload. After it gets uploaded then you can click insert image I hope that wasn’t confusing. also welcome to BB, if he has trouble with a water bottle you could try dish water (my bunny drinks from a dish on because he would shake the water bottle because apparently the water wasn’t coming out fast enough for him )

Hi Suka, welcome to BB! To post a photo, you must upload a file first by finding the Attachments tab located below the text box. Click on the arrow on the right hand side to open the tab and then upload a picture like normal. Once uploaded, the file name will appear and you will see an Insert button to include it in the text box with your message.

Yes, agree with kcomstoc, a water bowl is easier for rabbits. It’s also more natural than flicking a metal ball around just get a few drips of water from a bottle. Plus, it makes a lot of noise at night and they don’t hold up very well. The mechanism on our bottle broke after the first month so we switched to a ceramic bowl right away.

Do they need to be filed or will his alfalfa fix it? I’ll put water in there now. These bottles are two weeks old and already leak anyways but Harlow likes hers so he’ll get her shower bowl and she gets his bottle.

Also, his bottom and feet are terribly stained from his breeders negligence, is there a way to remove the colour? And there’s a few spots where some hair is stuck together and wavy (just a few strands not a mat) what can I do about that (its on his bottom)

They don’t look horrible yet, so hopefully you caught it in time. I would still have a rabbit savey vet look at him to make sure the rear molars don’t have any spurs on them. they can develop them even as young bunnies.

There are NONE within hours of me. I’d go a few hours away but my fiancé works all day and I can’t drive his truck when I do have access to it.

It is difficult to tell and to see the molars you will need to have a vet look at those with an otoscope – seeing molar spurs takes an experienced eye.

that is not good that you re so far away from a experienced rabbit vet, How will you deal with any emergencies?
