1.Bun name: Butters (when he’s being especially naughty, just Butt )

        2. Age of Bun: 1 1/2 years

        3. Length of time with said Bun: 5 months (I adopted him from a rabbit sanctuary)

        4. Neutered

        5. Skittish yet laid back. Pretends to be aloof but quite friendly. Likes to climb on my back and stand there for a full 10 seconds, feeling like he’s on top of the world.

When my boyfriend and I visited the rabbit sanctuary after applying for adoption, we had to choose a nice bun to take home. Honestly, they were all adorable, and I couldn’t decide. The lady there asked me if I’d like to hold one of the buns. I didn’t know you could do that. I said yes please.

She placed in my arms, this slightly scruffy looking bun who was trembling like crazy in my arms. Truth be told, he wasn’t the cutest bun in the room—not that it mattered, but I wouldn’t have picked him out right away. He did have this sweet sad look about him that was endearing. I held him, expecting him to jump off right away. He was literally vibrating.

Instead of jumping, he remained in my arms for a full fifteen minutes while I chatted with the lady, his rapid heart beat slowing down, his tremors subsiding. The lady mentioned it was weird how calm he was being. He actually looked comfortable. I couldn’t leave without the little guy. My boyfriend agreed, and we took him home.

Five months later, Butters has completely adapted himself to his new surroundings. He follows me around the house, lies next to me when I work, and rushes to the fridge before I do when I say “Carrot? Carrot?” He binkies when he’s naughty (meaning he went on the couch and nibbled on my textbooks & paper I accidentally left there. I can’t tell people my bunny’s eating my essays).

Now, surprisingly, he hates being picked up. Like most rabbits dislike being picked up. I just thought it was interesting how long he remained calm and rested in my arms, that night at the rabbit sanctuary. Maybe he knew I was going to take him home.

I love that there’s a rabbit-oriented community I can participate in. Sorry about the long rambling post.

I’d love to know more about rabbits, because god knows Butters is still an enigma to me.

          Wellcome!

Butters is beautiful. How great that he “chose” you, that his heart-rate went down when you held him at the sanctuary.

              Thank you for the welcome

He keeps trying to nip my butt/stomach from time to time though, I wonder what that means

Sometimes they nip for attention. You should squeal and remove him. My Bam has stopped nipping me but he still nips my mother, who is his favorite person in the world. He has bit through a number of her clothes, so now she takes care to only wear old clothes when she sees him. She stops petting him for two seconds, Bam nips.

That’s adorable, Bam sounds a bit like Butters.

I keep squealing, but he only hesitates for a second before approaching me again with cautious nips. I can’t really be too annoyed because he alternates between licking and nipping, but sometimes it’s too much!

Welcome to you and Butters! His face sort of looks like my bunny, Willow. I’ll have to put a link to a picture soon!
