› FORUM › THE LOUNGE › New Cage Setup & Update on Parsnip
As you know from my previous posting, I’ve been having pee troubles with mainly Gracie (I think). So I took some advice and changed their cage setup. Actually we removed the lino. flooring and bought the same design at Home Depot. When we took up the flooring (with the puzzle mats underneath), there had been a whole in it that we had covered with tile. Well when we took the floor up, there was a big wet spot on the mats and also where they had been peeing in the corner! We’re thinking they kept smelling it and remarking it. So we cleaned it up, turned all the mats over and put new flooring down! We’re crossing our fingers that this was the solution and a new floor was what they needed! We redid their cage a little bit, keeping the concept of having 3 floors with ramps. Moved their litter box and put their hay rack down a little more. We didn’t cut around the edges of the floor and put it up around the wall as a splash guard and also to keep all the hay in. Everything was sprayed down with vinegar water, vaccuumed up and is all clean now. They love going up the ramps and crotching down under them. So happy they like it! I hope it stays this clean (yeah right!) and there is no more pee issues! If there is, then the next step is maybe to take them to the vet….I dunno. But I’m hoping this solves it!
Here’s some pics I took really quick from the web cam:
They love laying in corners for some reason…there’s a ramp going from the ground level to a 1/2 level and another ramp to the 1st level.

We still have to cut cardboard tonight to put under the tiles or else it’s goign to wake us up tonight! Archie likes hopping up on their hidey house and to the top floor.

And like the other cage setup, we left the grid wall that swings out to turn into a gate so they don’t into the office part.
Doesn’t it look so clean?!…for now ![]()

The new litter box we got and our hay rack (has cardboard around it so hay doesn’t go out), and the cardboard on the wall is because we have an outlet there.

So the update on Parsnip (’cause I’m too lazy to post again
)… Jen didn’t get an appt. for her staples to come out until this Monday, which so happens someone is coming in that morning to look at the buns and marked Parsnip down to look at.
She told us and said she knew we were thinking about adopting her and to let her know. As much as we love Parsnip; we cannot give her the room she needs to run around right now. She is a slow eater and would never be able to keep up with Archie and Gracie. So I think it’s in her best interests that she gets adopted out to someone that can provide her with enough love and room as we do with Archie and Gracie. If she doesn’t get adopted Monday (which she won’t go to the house until later that week), I’ll probably go up there sometime and tell her goodbye.
That cage set up is wicked awesome!!!!!
Ditto RabbitPam – lol It “totally rocks”. Seriously though, good job. You 2 must whip them up in minutes by now! I can see why they’d like it, it’s quite warren like with the hidey spots & levels.
Wow, that is a bunny palace! I don’t think my first apartment was even that nice 😉
I hope Parsnip finds a great home. She’s so adorable I’m sure somebody will snatch her up. Heck, I’m in your part of the country a lot … maybe I should swing over and get her 😛
I think it took us longer to clean up their mess than to build their cage
Least we didn’t have to take down all the grids
They love it though, they keep running up and down the ramps. Got a pic of them relaxing though:
Archie’s looking out the window while Gracie is trying to lick some of the lettuce taste from their bowl. ![]()

Yes, even though I don’t want her to go, I hope she gets adopted on Monday so she can have a good home to run around in and someone to spoil her rotten!
That condo is great! Nice work.
Wow – that is really a great condo! I hope my bunnies don’t see it – – they’ll be super jealous.
Wow i didnt get my nic stuff as expected saturday so havent started yet, but yours is amazing and has inspired me a bit. My dad has lino and i was going to put a grid floor and then put lino over it but looking at what you have done i could just lay the lino down underneath xx it is soooo good x good luck with parsnip xx
Glad you guys like it and has some people inspired ![]()
The splash guard is shoved against the walls and zip tied to the grids. We used those mats that fit like puzzle pieces for kids. That way if someone was to pee and it soaked through, the mats are water proofed.
Ski – what a great set up!!!!! And I love “licking the lettuce taste out of the bowl”!!!!! I have a dog that will lick her bowl for about 15 minutes after the food is gone – we always think she’s trying to lick the pawprint pictures out!!!!!!!!!!
That looks awesome! I bet they love gazing out the window! You guys really are master condo builders!
I hope Parsnip goes to a great home, I really do. I know how much you love that little girl, but I know it’s sometimes too hard with multiple sets of buns. I’m sure Jen will make sure she goes to the perfect person.
Thanks guys!
Parsnip gets her staples out today and things got moved around and now anyone that was going to see the bunnies is coming Wed. instead….I think that’s how I read it. ![]()
Awww I bet Parsnip will find a lovely home, do you work with a bunny rescue? Our are people just going to look at her at the vet? I know thats prob a stupid question lol.
I love that condo! I’ve been thinking about building Flopsy something like that, but I’m not sure if I will have the room. Right now I just have a pen set up in my room with his cage in there, & some toys & stuff. It’s not the best in the world, but it’s the best I can do right now.
Does it cost a lot of money to make? What all do you use? I’m pretty broke right now since I just spent almost $200 dollars getting Flopsy fixed.

LOL that’s not a stupid question
We adopted Gracie from Judge’s Park in PA. which is at her house so she has limited room. We thought we’d help out and foster a rabbit. We took her back to the shelter because she takes them to her vet to get spayed. So whoever comes on Wed. goes to the shelter (her house) and looks at the bunnies.
Thanks! Haha we hardly have any room too, we no longer have an office because of them so we must really love them
I think our office is about 10×11 or a little bit bigger than that. We use NIC grids that we got from Bed Bath and Beyond but I don’t know if there still sell them there or not. You can get them online or from Target (but watch because some of the grids have bigger holes). Used the connectors to connect them all, zip ties to make sure they stay all together, a dowl rod for support in the second floor that is zip tied to the grids, dog leash clips for the gate/door, linolium from Home Depot for the floor, kid puzzle mats for under the linolium, pieces of carpet for the floor, a few pieces of tile for them to lay on (and when they eat their lettuce…it was making the carpet green haha!)…I think that’s it. We made the ramps with two grids connected together and zip tied to the next floor.
So cost for cage parts….
NIC grids are about $15 x6 packs
Zip Ties for 100 pack is about $3
Dowl Rod is maybe $5 or so
A 6×8 piece of Lino. was $22 at Home Depot
Tile was $11 for a pack of 6 I think.
The carpet was free for us, we took up carpet from the dining room when we moved in and have cutting it up for them.
Seeing the look of your rabbits faces as they explore their new cage, priceless ![]()

Oh and when we put tile on the grids upstairs, we had to put cardboard underneath because it was kind of loud.
When we first started out we only bought 2 packs or so and we also had BB&B coupons, so you can always start out buying one each month and work up to building a bigger condo.
Thanks
I’m going to print this out, & when I get payed I will start building one. It’s not as much as I thought it would be yay!![]()

Hey i made mine which was fun and it is in a space where it has to be 2 x 2 squares and is three floors high??? Does that sound enough, they are just exploring it at the moment, i was worried it isnt big enough. They are out most of the time as i am a stay at home mum of three but still i want them to have enough room x One day i want another rabbit to go with them so would make it bigger and put it somewhere else xx will put pics up soon xx
I would think that’s enough room, especially since they’re out most of the time. We let our’s out most of the time too (I’m pretty much always home), but right now they seem to like their cage more than outside; not sure if that’s good or bad ![]()
