        Hi there!

My husband and I just got our first little bunny, Cranberry the Holland Lop. She’s 8 weeks old and the breeder kept her in her house and she was totally litter box trained. We’ve only had her home for a couple days and I know that it’s common for a bunny to mark her territory, but she keeps both peeing and pooping all over the place. She’s not going in just one corner of her pen, but literally all over it. The thing is, she also has a litter box in the corner and still uses it. (Honestly how donsuch tiny creatures produce so much poop?? It’s insane! Hahaha) I’m not particularly bothered by the poop, and I just toss it into the litter box when she goes, but I can’t clean up the pee fast enough. If I leave the room for a while I’ll come back and there will be dozens of pellets all over every inch of her pen. I’m trying my best to move it to the litter box as soon as I can, but she still uses the litter box and I’m just not sure if this is just her way of settling in? Or if I need to be doing something else to retrain her. If you have any suggestions please let me know!

300-500 poops a day, you’d better believe it

This is pretty normal for young rabbits, especially young rabbits in a new environment. What’s her set up like in regards to litter in the tray and bedding in the rest of her area? Make sure they’re not similar so that she isn’t getting confused. Otherwise, some young bunnies simply don’t toilet train well until they’ve been spayed or neutered. Sometimes they do, but it depends. It may ease up over the next few days as she settles in more, but remember she’s only a baby, and it will take time

Thanks for answering so fast! We don’t have any bedding in her cage other than a fleece blanket, because it’s a plastic bottom cage, so I don’t think that’s confusing her. I’m sure you’re right and she’s just a baby in a new environment. Just wanted to check and make sure I wasn’t doing anything wrong! I’m definitely a little nervous, with her being my first bunny, but she’s already bonded with me and does binkies every day already, so I think she’s pretty happy here. Thanks so much for the reassurance! ?

Like Azerane said, this is pretty common.

Annabelle was fully litter trained and a house bun when I adopted her, however for the first 14 days she was peeing and pooping outside the box. I just kept picking up the poop, and wiping the pee with paper towel and putting it in the box till she got the idea. She also peed and pooped outside her litter box when I brought her to my parents house for the first time. From what I’ve read, they do this to sort of establish this as their space. Anna, when introduced to a new room, would poop a little all over the place the first time, but stopped after subsequent visits. Best of luck !!! I’d say you’re fine
