        Hi, Everyone!

I never thought I’d be a bunny owner, but here I am and I’m loving it.  I have a French Lop named Cadbury; I inherited her a few weeks ago, and she’s so sweet.  She has such a beautiful personality.  She has her own room in our house, but I’m still trying to get the layout right.  I’m learning so much about her but yet I still feel like there’s still so much to learn.

She’s about 3 years old, and she’s not spayed.

Right now I’m trying to get her to eat more hay and less dandelions. I currently have some fresh hay on order to be delivered soon (better than the store bought stuff, I presume).

We live in the northeast, and my husband, my kids and I are just enjoying time with our new bunny.  🙂   I’ve started to spend all my money on her; I think she’s hypnotized me with those pretty brown eyes.

Hello and welcome to Binky Bunny! Cadbury is lovely!

Hay is certainly very important for rabbits. If you have only tried one kind, such as timothy, there are other varieties that might be more tempting to her, such as orchard grass, oat hay or meadow hay. Some brands may be preferred by rabbits too, so you may have to try a few different ones to find what she really likes. Make sure that you aren’t giving her too many pellets. A lot of rabbits prefer those, instead of eating their hay. For rabbits that might not be great hay eaters, you can try hay toppers, https://store.binkybunny.com/bunny-bouquet-hay-topper-floppers-p118.aspx. If you haven’t checked out the BUNNY INFO link at the top of the page, you should do so. It has a lot of helpful info on basic rabbit care.

It is advised to spay rabbits due to the high incidence of uterine cancer, so you may want to think about that.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!

I feel bad admitting this b/c I inherited her from my grandfather who just recently passed away (and the last thing I want to do is say anything disparaging b/c I loved him). But the truth of the matter is that even though he loved her, at 88 years old he was too old to care for her properly. She was alone in a coop her whole life until her got her a few weeks ago. She didn’t have any prolonged access to people, except for when my grandfather would come out and feed her once a day. She was eating only alfalfa products (hay and pellets), so trying to get her used to timothy has been tricky. So she was basically feral when I came to get her and brought her home. We’ve been very patient with her, showering her with lots of love and attention. In turn, she’s come around quiet well! She comes up to greet me and loves to play ball with us. We love her!

I can’t believe how big she is! I have a 13 pound black cat named Mandrake, and she’s bigger than he is, lol. They’re learning to become friends — I never leave them alone together for any reason whatsoever but it’s nice to see them enjoy each other’s company when I’m around.

Thank you for the advice on the hay! I thought bunnies could only have timothy. I’m going to try others now. Unbeknownst to me I bought a bad kind… the Kaytee brand from the store. Probably one of the reasons she hasn’t really enjoyed it. So I’m looking forward to my new, fresh timothy hay and pellets to be delivered between today and tomorrow. We’re having poop issues right now – those special poops that are supposed to look grape-like are suddenly now like pudding b/c of her unbalanced diet. So it’ll be great when she starts snarfing down the hay again. She ate the one bag of Kaytee b/c since I’ve bought the 2nd she really wants nothing to do with it.

Oh yes! I’m definitely going to get her spayed. I just want her to get used to us a little more before I drag her off to the vet for surgery. I’m thinking by the end of the summer, I’ll get it done.

Thanks again for such a warm welcome!
