        Hi All,

This seems like a great community and a wealth of information! We just got our bunny last weekend. About 8 weeks old. I don’t know what kind – guessing a linx rex? Bought her from our local feed store. She’s so sweet and playful. Feeding her pellets and Alfalfa hay right now but seems that when she’s maybe 6 months (?) we will switch to Timothy hay. Their best guess at the store was that she is a she, but the person that knows the most wasn’t in the day we were there; luckily Carrot will work for her name if we find out she’s actually a he

Welcome! She looks so cute in your avatar.

It sounds like she has a good diet. When she is about 12 weeks you can start slowly introducing veggies (yum!).

We’d love to see more pics anytime, and feel free to ask any questions. You’ll learn tons here

              Thanks ThorBunny!

We gave her a little piece of banana a few days ago (I know you have to be careful and not give too much because of sugar) but maybe we’ll hold off on treats until she’s a little bit older. I did read that they should be slightly older for veggies and then introduced to them very slowly so good to know that around 12 weeks is a good time.

I also traded out the pine chips for the aspen pellets this week. I feel bad because she was using pine chips in her litter box (separated by a little grate on top) for the first week. But not anymore!

I’m so glad I found this site because we’ve never had a bunny before and we want to make sure we learn and do everything as best we can!

Hi there and welcome to the forum

Carrot looks like a real little cutie. Regarding litter, it is good to switch out the pine chips for aspen. Pine can be used in some circumstances, for example where it has been kiln dried, or in the compressed wood pellets which are also heat dried which removes the danger of the health risk from the phenols in the pine.

                  Carrot is very cute

You’ll be in for some fun having a bun in your life

Thoughts of spay or neuter will be coming up within the year too. I suggest looking into what changes in behaviour start happening when his/her hormones take off. It’s better for their health and litter habits to be fixed… rabbit savvy vets are important for this

Unless you’ve had some exposure before bunnies have a learning curve glad your with us – it’s a great community and the forum leaders (and regulars) are very knowledgeable.

                      Thanks everybody!!
I’ve been reading a lot on here and did read about the spay/neuter and the pine chips. Guess spaying/neutering is anywhere from about 6 months on. Maybe as early as 4?
And I got rid of the pine chips as soon as I learned about it. I couldn’t be certain about whether or not they were the ok kind so I tossed them and got the Aspen pellets.
She is doing great. And I got some polar/blizzard fleece for her cage although she seems to prefer the plastic shelf instead. She moved her food bowl down and sprawls out on the shelf. LOL! Also gotnher a Timothy hay mat which she seems to like to sit on while she eats. 🙂

Sounds like she’s making herself right at home . Luna prefers laying on plastic too, but when she feels like it she’ll hang out on her fleece blanket for a little while.
