Hi everyone! I’ve been wanting to have a rabbit for a long time and I finally got my crazy little bun about two weeks ago!

        Here she is!

The pet shop said that she’s a lionhead lop and I can kinda see the lionhead part but

She’s about 21 weeks old now and I’m looking to spay her when she’s 6 months old. She has mostly gotten used to her new home but is still pretty shy and timid. Would like some advice on bonding with her since she ignores me 90% of the time (the other 10% being when I have food…) and just stares into space…

Just gonna end off with this photo of her:

Hi and very welcome to the forums =) Your little girl is beautiful!

If she is a lionhead (pet stores aren’t always correct), she could start developping a mane later, between 6 months – 1 year of age. We have had examples of that here.

As for bonding, it’s normal for a bun to be shy at first, and 2 weeks is a very short time for a bun. Ignoring is actually not a bad thing. Ignoring means she doesn’t really trust you yet, but she’s sensing you might not be so bad, you’re not a threat (buns will run and hide or freeze when confronted with a threat, some buns will growl and box). Plus she doesn’t ignore you when there’s food. The road to the bun’s heart goes via the tummy =) I think you just need patience and let her explore you. Rabbits are very curious and cant resist exploring if the human sits still and doesn’t try to make contact. But it can take time, fearfulness is deep in the genome of a rabbit. They are, after all, the prey animals of prey animals =/

Thank you! I’ll be looking forward to see if she develops a mane in the next few months I’ve been thinking of getting a playpen so that I can have an enclosed area for spending time with her and letting her get used to me.

Hi! I love her ears . For more bonding just keep spending as much time as you can with her. It doesn’t have to be physical contact; just being around her or talking to her will help.

Thank you both! I’ve been spending my time around her whenever I can, doing stuff on my laptop or just using my phone and I think she has gotten used to the sounds that come from my laptop and phone .
