New Bunny!

So today I got my new bunny. No idea what to name him though hehe

He is sooo cutee and he let me pet him (a lot) so that’s great

Oh welcome! He is a cutie for sure!! Just a tip to share with you that will make litter training easier for ya: I would remove the bedding you have in his home. Only put litter in his litter box and that way he knows where to do his business. I made this mistake at first and litter training was so hard until I took it out. He thought his whole cage was his litter box! ha ha!

I have a separate litter box with a different bedding… a pet store recommended I use that (It’s a wood pellet litter)
What do you think Kbana? I should remove the wood shavings off the whole cage? So what should I do instead of the wood shavings?

Oh yes, I agree with Kbana. It took me awhile to realize that it was why it was taking Lulu so long to train! Lulu never cared for the bedding anyways and would usually push it away before sitting or laying. I took it out and bam! Litter training successful.

ok so what kind of bedding do you have for the entire cage? and should I keep using this wood pellet litter as the real litter?

Never feel silly of stupid for asking a question! Many of us use x-pens instead of a cage so for me Lulu just lays on the carpet. When she was in a cage though, I didn’t use anything. She just has her paper pelleted litter in her litter box and would lay on the plastics cage floor.

Ok so if, for example, i put a towel in the cage floor (just so that it’s not too cold) it would be fine right?

For the sake of litter training. NOTHING should be on the flooring of the cage. Just the plastic. Makes cleanups quick and easy. When he has proven well established litter habits, you can add something like a rug or a blanket. But some rabbits actually prefer the plastic of the cage as it’s cool

Congrats and he is a cutie! Also ditto on removing the bedding/wood shavings. It’s unnecessary and will end up as more work for you. Plus you can use the money you saved on other things like toys and treats. As long as your rabbit is living indoors with you he doesn’t really need towels or blankets. Also it may confuse him since they’re soft and absorbent like litter.

Oh, another tip that goes along with the blanket idea. I’d avoid having him on your bed…bunnies for some reason like to wet on beds, couches… Pretty much if it absorbs they may go. Not saying that he will, but I’d be aware of it. You won’t have to worry about him getting cold since he is indoors and their fur makes them alittle tougher than we are in winter

Definitely not too late to litter train… In fact it may be a little early to expect good habits…. You can certainly start instilling the good behavior but once they hit puberty you might have to start over post spay/neuter… At this stage I would not presume that the gender is correct either.

Are you using a sipper bottle or water bowl? Might be best to use both at this point. Until you can see its preference.

He is soooo cute! And no – it’s never to late to train! Especially since yours is so young! I got my rabbit when she was 2 1/2, coming from a breeder that had her cage bed completely covered with straw for bedding, and I managed to get her litter trained within a month of having her. So I agree with everyone, the key is not having any bedding in the cage

Ugh! Sorry I forgot to subscribe to the thread so I wasn’t getting notifications. Duh!! Yes, I agree with everyone, nothing on the bottom of the cage. You might also find that your bun prefers the smooth surface to stretch out on. It could be too soon to expect much from training, but you never know. My Albert picked it up really quickly. That being said, once hormones hit, things could go a bit haywire until after the spay/neuter. But still never too early to start encouraging good litter habits. consistent expectations is a great thing while training and will only help when your bun is truly ready to “stay” litter trained. LOL.

And, no stupid questions…that is why we are all here! We were ALL newbies once and are more than happy to answer questions. Because of this forum I feel like I have gained so much valuable info and am more prepared than I ever would have been without it. I have only had Albert since September but have gained countless amounts of knowledge from BB and its members. There are so many idiosyncrasies that come with owning and caring for a rabbit that is unlike any other kind of pet. Keep asking away!

He’s 1.5months old Diamond. Honestly when i first got him he was quite boney, now he’s a bit fatter lol
