So Caleb has been more interactive with his stuffed bear making his head go in his hay container so they can eat together, when his salad comes he took the bear out of the hay container and set him next to the salad bowl and josh (my boyfriend) and I have decided that he could probably use a pal. Also we want another rabbit (mostly Josh, he seems to like rabbits more than dogs),
so we’re going to let Caleb pick out a bunny he likes from a local rescue and we have to prepare for her (or him if he decides he like a boy bunny better) arrival. We need to build a second cage and upgrade Caleb’s cage but the news is official we are going to get another bunny if all goes well. I didn’t think I could handle another one but things are going so well with Caleb and he’s such a sweety and I know he’ll love the company as soon as they are bonded together ![]()
Ahh it does sound like your bunny could use a friend. I hope you find one at the rescue he loves.
I’m very excited about this! It’s going to be great to see Caleb snuggling with another bunny.
I can’t get any more bunnies I have to live vicariously though all of you.
me too MD super excited…I just have to pass the home visit….I’m so nervous because we have Jake and he isn’t really bunny safe though we separate them at all times. We gotta do an apartment cleaning anyway
Well I had a huge paragraph typed up and I accidentally pushed a button and it deleted it
anyway in order for me to get a rescue bunny I have to have a home visit done….I don’t have a date yet because they have to find a volunteer to do it but I’m nervous…..I’ve never had anything like a home visit done before. I don’t know if they will like Caleb’s cage the way it is, the cage itself is big enough (we are going to upgrade it soon I just have to buy the materials and things) but the padding on Caleb’s cage is a camp pad with duct tape around it. Previously the floor of Caleb’s cage was the plywood table top but we thought it would be too hard for his bunny feet so we bought the camp pad. He decided to tear some of it up HE DIDN’T EAT ANY (we checked his poop and he was pooping) but we were worried so we duct taped it, ever since there have been no problems. It’s been this way for 7 months, Josh wants to change the camp pad out and put something else but no ideas yet (if you have any please share). So what do the home visit people look for? I know Caleb is well taken care of but what worries me is Jake (our shiba inu dog). They are never in the same room and if they are Jake is leashed sitting next to me on the couch so that Caleb can hop around (I hold onto the leash and usually Jake will just lay there and sleep with me holding the leash) but those are rare occasions, like if we have Caleb out for a long time.
We’re scheduled to have a home visit this Sunday – because we are considering a 3rd bun – hoping she will help Boo feel more comfortable, and less timid. I wouldn’t be too worried about the inspection. I think they’re just making sure your bun is safe, and well cared for – which obviously he is.
For flooring – maybe vinyl sheet over the wood…and some carpet remnants for traction? that’s what we have in our buns condo. We bought tile remnants at Menards for $1. Next time I go back, I want to buy a bunch – so we can just toss it after 1 month.
Carpet
great idea…when we make the condo bigger we’ll use it and then redo the bottom floor thank you and I can’t wait to see the new bunny
I like this carpet:

I have it in my bunny pen right now and I love it. It’s pretty cheap and low pile so they don’t dig it up too much.
I wouldn’t fret about the home visit too much. Explain that Jake is never in the same room un-leashed and that you’re very conscientious about it. Unless they have a “no dog” rule I don’t think it should be a problem. I think home visits are more for them to be sure you’re not housing your bunny outside (most rescues I’ve seen have a indoor homes only rule), have bunny proofed, appropriate space, ect…
You guys take great care of Caleb (and Jake) and I’m sure they will see that. ![]()
What does bunny proof mean I hear it a lot but don’t necessarily know what they mean exactly?
Just like child proofing… Basically isolating, removing or modifying anything they can get into that will hurt them or that you don’t want damaged.. Best idea once you have taken care of everything visible from human height is to get down on the ground and do a full survey fro floor level (bunny height) for anything you may have missed or overlooked.
Oh, I don’t think there’s anything that he can get to that can hurt him….or he can get to that can hurt him.
BB has an article about bunny proofing if you want to check it out:

Is it because they literally would not fit in your house? lol
