Hello everybun. My name is Oona and my fluffy friend is Cherokee.  I’ve had rabbits in the past, and I truly missed having any in my life so about a month ago I began searching for a rabbit in need of a home. I found various….breeders, but I wasn’t comfortable going that route even if it saved a life. Finally I found a NZW that needed a home. Sadly he took ill and could no longer be placed. Then I found an ad for a “palomino buck” that had been abandoned at a Petsmart because “he got too big”.  exact age is unknown and I can tell you he is not a Palomino. His body is the semi-arched type.  But he’s a smutty fawn in color. Led me to Flemish Giant, but if he’s FG he is either young or a cross. Which after some thought I began to suspect a FG/NZR cross perhaps? I’m not sure.  I am disabled and so I spend most of my time at home. I have a couple of cats but…there was just something missing. Ya know? I brought Cherokee into my home 5 days ago and I am so glad I did.  I was going to take him to the vet right away but his cage is way too small for him so I used the check up money to order a larger cage.  I am happy to say that if the cage he is in now is used as his litter pan, he counts as litter trained.  He does not go on the floor when out for run time. I’m not sure if he is neutered or if he just pulls up when I check him, but his genital area is clean. His ears are clean, his nose is dry and his eyes are clear. Overall a healthy little guy.  I don’t know his history with veggies, the foster just gave pellets and hay. So I did 4 days just parsley. Now he is on just kale. Thursday I will go shopping and pick up some other veggies to try him on.  He had no trouble with the parsley at all.  Well, that’s us in a nutshell!

Hi and welcome to Binky Bunny! Thank you for saving a bunny who had been abandoned. Cherokee sure is a handsome guy! I know that he appreciates the larger cage, time out of the cage and the loving home that he is now in.

Since rabbits are often misidentified as to gender, I wonder if there is a possibility that he is really a she? Someone that discards a rabbit because it got too big, probably wouldn’t have spent the money to get him neutered. They can suck up their testicles, but it seems like there is also the possibility that it could be a female. Maybe you could try holding a treat over his head to make him stand up, to see if there are testicles. He would be more relaxed in that situation, as opposed to you picking him up and trying to check him.

Ahhh I LOOOVE that colour. Pepsi my rainbow bun was like that (and my dog) and a meat bun.(not my dog! LOL)… not a Flemmie though. How heavy is s/he?

S/he does look Vienna shaped but those ears are giving her/him away

I don’t have a scale but (this is going to sound silly) he weighs pretty close to the ten pound bag of flour I have in my pantry lol. Deffinitely heavier than the 5 pound bag of sugar. I should have the larger cage by friday and when it is here I am going to give a water bowl along side the water bottle so I can wean him off the bottle. My dutch I had in the past got sores on her tongue from using a bottle. There just isn’t room for a water bowl in the current cage. Oh and he flopped just a bit ago. Definitely a he and not neutered. I’ll start working on putting together the money to neuter him. Vet said $100 at most. Not sure what you mean by Vienna shaped?

                Cherokee’s color is gorgeous–what a handsome bunny.

                Welcome Oona and Cherokee!
