New Addition to the Family =)

I have nowhere else to express my excitement so I thought why not to my bun friends that have always been here for me for everything bunny (and everything else as well)!

We have made the decision to add another addition to the family – the bun group that is.  I began inquiring yesterday to our local rescue, Rabbit Wranglers, on LOPS they have available.  They said they would send a list last night… but they are very busy and she didn’t get a chance to send it…. so I’m anxiously (and very impatiently I must add) waiting for the list of lops available for adoption!   They do have some on-line but it’s only a list of 10 and I know right now they currently have between 74-76 buns available – some with illnesses and disabilities as well as they are a behaviorally challenged and disabled bunny rescue. 

 

I seriously feel like I’m going to spontaneously combust while I wait!   The boyfriend told me I’m insane because of how often I’ve been checking my phone and e-mail but really… can he blame me??!  I know he’s excited as well!  I just show it more!

She just texted me and said she forgot all about it… and would be sending me the list shortly!   The Tans DECREASE the cute overload when they destroy things in the house… hahahah!  They are like the splash of cold water in the mist of a hot shower! Just kidding!  I love them but they sure do continue to keep me on my toes although they’re a lot better than they were as babies so it’s almost like a walk in the park now!  It’s sometimes very rewarding though.  You come in the door and you automatically have a Tan yanking on your pant leg.  It really does make you feel loved even though they are not one of our “cuddly” buns!

You are all the BEST and helping me keep my sanity (… well maybe not since even my RABBIT peepz friends don’t think seven is SANE! )…. but we FINALLY GOT SOME PICTURES. 

 

ANDDDD…. we have decided we are not sure if we definitely want a Lop anymore, hahaha!  Can you believe it?  Somehow we are back to looking at Lionheads… who would’ve thought!!??!

Here are some Lops! – 

Breeze is my FAVORITE of the Lops so far: She’s a 1 year old American Fuzzy Lop who came from a 4-H’er with a broken foot.

 

Arianna is next:  She’s a 2 year old lop who came from a person who was basically starving her. 

 

 

Next are the babies:  Radar and BJ who are three month olds, Harlequin with helicopter ears currently (not sure if the other will flop or not!)

 

   

 

Okay… next is the Lionheads we have seen currently… they are still sending us more: 

 

This is Sable – I’m not sure if some of your remember but a month or two back I was involved in helping out a 200+ rabbit hoarding situation in West Virginia.  Sable is a 10 month old female who just gave birth to four babies – 2 REWs and 2 grays.  Her babies were just weaned. 

   

 

And last but not least… this is Mela and Caitlin – they are around 3-5 month old Lionheads!

nobody yet.  LOL.  My boyfriend has expressed that he really wants a bun that is affectionate and gives kisses (basically he wants another Simba!).  So we have been scouring places looking for buns under the age of 2, who give kisses.  Which is not an easy feat…. UGH. 

 

Not to mention, everyone e-mails me back like I’m crazy when I ask… “Does he give kisses?” LOL.   We are searching even long-distance as I know a lot of people cross-country who are involved with the Bunderground Railroad who would be helpful in getting a bunny traveled if it meant a great home for him so I’m not worried about that. 

SO do any of you know a bunny up for adoption that smootches????

I’m on my phone so can’t update with pics but wanted to let everyone know we have adopted a bun! He is actually not one of the ones posted!

We had looked on the website of the local humane society where I try to volunteer on Saturdays. My boyfriend was dropping me off today and we hadn’t seen any on the website that really jumped out at us or that I didn’t already know their personality. So my boyfriend came inside just to peek and see them all. So we go in and are pointing out which ones we think are cute and I’m getting them out so we can meet them…..and then we come to Sam. Sam is a brown Holland Lop who was not there the last time I went. I stuck my nose up to the cage because he was poking his out and he gave it a lick! So I pull him out and we are talking about how he doesn’t mind being held and snuggled further into my neck so I hand him off to Aaron to hold and begin reading his papers….

Apparently Sam has gotten the rep as the most vicious and aggressive bunny in the shelter. I was laughing because it just seemed so ridiculous. We played with him on the floor some and then decided….he was our bunny. He kept following us around and if we pushed him off our laps to get up, he would hop right back in. So we decided!

I let them know…they call our name and we are filling out the adoption forms…. and the girl goes “oh Sam??? You do realize he’s very aggressive right?? are you sure you can handle him??” We both smiled, laughed, and I signed my name.

I feel like this rabbit chose us. He didn’t show us ANYTHING that anyone else was saying and he would never get adopted with a rep like that. This boy has found his forever home! I will post some pics when I get home tonight!

Meet our new boy!  He has been named Sam (he’s only had the name for three days) so we are going to change it – feel free to throw out lots of suggestions!

 

 

 

And this 2nd photo is blurry but he was laying his head on my stomach when he looked up at me and I thought it was the cutest thing ever.

 

 

These pictures are from our Bunny Romp.  We adopted him today but cannot bring him home until tomorrow.  He hasn’t been neutered yet so he’ll be neutered in the morning and we can pick him up around 3-4:30.   It really shocks me!  This is the FIFTH neuter/spay I’ve gone through and it STILL makes me sooo nervous!   Even more nervous because it’s the shelter vet (although I know they do A LOT of successful bun spays/neuters because a lot of our rescues bring them in to neuter/spay other rescues buns) but I do not personally know them!  But you’re not allowed to take the rabbit until after it’s done so you don’t even have the option of your own vet performing the surgery.  I will live!  This same vet did Lacey’s spay the day after we adopted her as well!

 

I got to hang out with him for two hours.  All the other volunteers kept saying “he definitely has chosen you!”  He kept following me around and hopping in my lap and just laying there for long periods of time.  I’m in love.  It’s so funny to me that everyone thinks he’s vicious….  I personally think the lady who dropped him off was a miserable beep who gave him a bad rep so the shelter staff just kind of acts like he’s vicious because no one wants to deal with him.  His hormones don’t help either… but you would think shelter staff would expect that!  Grrr, oh well.  He has a good home now and that’s all that matters!

Oh my goodness! WHAT A DOLL!!! Congrats! Oh yes, he’s so vicious, look at that face  And that picture of him cuddling with you, so aorable!!!! It’s very obvious any problems they MAY have had with him were hormone driven and all other accusations completely false. I’m sure he is going to be very happy with you guys you are very lucky!

Congrats! I think he is absolutely adorable! (But then again, I’m biased. He looks so much like my beautiful baby girl Marlee!)

I’m guessing the “vicious” is likely spirit and attitude! (Look out Tans, there’s a new Bun in town!”) Don’t know if you’ve ever seen the movie Marley and Me, but that’s *kind of* where the name Marlee came from for us except she’s a girl. So, you could always name him Marley! I think we need LOTS more pictures and maybe even video so we can see this “vicious” and “aggressive” bun in action!

The boyfriend would totally veto Marley BECAUSE it came from Marley and Me! Hahahaha! I loved that movie! I love how you made it Marlee, that is such an adorable name! I don’t even know where they got “vicious” from, even his hormonal behavior was barely aggressive! He only lightly nipped me when he began attempting to mount my arm. LOLLLL! But he wasn’t even hard. And he stopped as soon as I pushed him off my arm. He was very rambunctious but just bolting around like a happy bun bun and a little bit of hormonal circling. Hazel, that is definitely how you should do it! Simba this same shelter almost euthanized for being too aggressive. Simba is the sweetest bunny I’ve ever met in my entire life. Lacey was deemed “aggressive” because she bit a little boy who DROPPED her (I’m pretty sure he did anyways). And now this poor little man!

That’s so irresponsible and lazy! Do they even want to find homes for these animals? It’s a shelter, they should do anything they can to get these pets adopted. They should evaluate them first hand, not take the previous owners word for it. “Oh well, I guess he’s aggressive, why bother…”

I understand if they want to be honest to avoid animals being returned but that girl almost sounded like she was trying to talk you out of it. What if you had been a first time owner? You might have changed your mind. Seems like they would welcome a chance for a “difficult” animal to get adopted, instead of trying to ruin it.

I COMPLETELY agree, Hazel! The problem is, I have complained on here before about this shelter, that they see rabbits as just a “whatever” pet….not an actual intelligent interactive animal like a cat or dog. It really annoys me! IT IS LAZY. Which makes it even worse. You may remember when I first started volunteering there, I had a meeting with the director because of the things I heard staff members say about rabbits being horrible pets AND the way I saw one being handled in front of potential adopters (who need to know the correct ways to handle a rabbit!). If I’m remembering correctly, I believe she also kept describing a rabbit as aggressive. We have a House Rabbit Club here and the lady who runs it pretty much deals with/runs the rabbit part of the shelters as well in regards to getting volunteers and getting the rabbits out to off-site events and what have you. She puts a lot of work into educating staff members about the buns and she was livid when she heard the adoption counselor (of ALL people) called him aggressive. She doesn’t believe in using the term “aggressive” for a rabbit because it’s a natural fear response and if you figure out what’s triggering it, you can stop the behavior.

Sonn, your lops are sooooo adorable! I’m really excited we ended up with a Lop! We seemed to be gravitating to them and Lionheads but it will be a nice change to the group! THOSE CHEEKS ON LOPS ALWAYS MAKE BIG SQUISHY SO PERFECT! hahahahaha. I was thinking maybe Olli to go along with the Tans Pittsburgh Penguins theme but the boyfriend veto’ed that! It was funny with Lacey, it was like I had all these great boy names thought of but not girls… now I seem to only be able to think of girl names not boys! Oy!

I loved the Marley dog in the movie, but could never watch the movie again. Cried too hard the first time. My buns were actually supposed to be Marley (Moshi) and Peaches (Marlee) but my son got involved! Moshi is actually more the “Oh bunny what have you done now” one in the pair!

I’m so glad you got him! “Squishy” is definitely right when it comes to lops. In fact, one of Moshi’s nicknames is Mooshy Bunny!

I’ve been so busy with work in the last couple weeks, I cannot believe all this happened! Tanlover, you are mad crazy, but also very inspiring to me. I want to adopt another bun (and have 2 in mind at HRS where I volunteer), but am so scared that I won’t be able to handle more than 2 rabbits at a time. I’m also scared that a new addition will change Nugget and Emilee’s relationship. I excited to hear about your bonding experience, but I’m sure all your buns will be like “Oh, mom brought home another brother, so what else is new?” hahaha

I’m still just calling him my little man and I’m still just hooked on Finn. Boyfriend came back from his business trip and STILL has no names to offer. Although today is the first day he interacted with him but he’s nervous about getting sprayed so hasn’t been uber cuddly with him like I have. I guess that’s what moms are for huh? We brought him on Sunday and my boyfriend left for his business trip on Tuesday and Sunday/Monday he was biting and lunging so my boyfriend opted out from interacting as he didn’t want my battle wounds! I wouldn’t worry about Manny too much with the toy thing, if it’s not made out of cardboard or something edible, Henry doesn’t play with it either. My youngest cat is called Finn Gall LBJ, it means Fair (pale) stranger spelt Finngall or it is also the name of the legendary giants responsible for the Giants Causeway in Ireland…

TL, like the others say he might not quite get toys yet….. Have you tried stacking cups ? Mine love them, also the parrot kabobs with the bells… There is a yucca one too on a sisal string a bit like several mini bunny blasters tied together. LEL: It does doesn’t it, my pet supplier has a good range and I’m sure they had that one last tie I was in the parrot section looking for a yucca stack for pandora and her bubs… I would love one of these for the Wildebeest…. Rabbit toys are so hard to get in Australia so you have to get creative…. I found IQ toys for puppies and kittens on Dealsdirect.com.au that are ideal for bunnies and reasonably priced (even more so if you get it on the free or $2 delivery days)

Anywho, the gist of it was. Maybe Finn isn’t the right name for him then! He’s definitely not pale! =P

I haven’t tried stacking cups, do you get these in the kids section??? I see people with them on facebook but have never figured out where they got them from. We have the kabob thing with the bell at the end, nothing. That toys looks soooo fabulous though! Whoever created that, I love them! I’m going to have to look up purchasing it later when I’m not doing schoolwork. Came on here for a break while I’m doing a non-time exam.

I’m pretty sure it’s the BB store that has a sampler toy. I have a few of them now. It’s great for chewers and tossers. Stacking cups are in baby toy section of stores (got mine at Babies R Us). The yucca toy is also a chew/throw toy. Tunnels and boxes seem to be the all around favorites for mine (willow tunnels, concrete form tubes, accordian style and cat tunnels, tunnel haven, maze haven, etc) and balled up paper.

I second stacking cups and raise you baby keys.  My bunnies like tossing them around. Monty also likes shaking them for periods of time… Which is adorable and super noisy. Lol.

You can get stacking cups for a couple of dollars in any baby section… I get mine at the local supermarket in the nappy aisle.

I can’t find the original kind of baby keys. All the ones I’ve found are heavier and most have gel parts. Ended up buying some that are all plastic but they have thick sections on the keys and my buns just push them a little then move on. Some things just shouldn’t be new-and-improved!

For the other buns, we have those “baby keys” made from some pet store company. Can’t remember who. They have the plastic ring around them but then they have wooden “keys” on them with a plastic bunny on them also. My other buns love them but “Manny’ hasn’t had a chance to play with those yet and I can’t find them anywhere now it seems! I was in PetSmart and got him some toy that was that twine stuff and then had blocks of wood on it and the twine made a loop so they are like CHEAP baby keys! LOL. Mango seems fine. My Bam did jump into a bowl of fruit salad last Christmas, He jumped from the floor, flew through the air and landed in the bowl that my mother was holding in her hand. I think it had mango in it. (it also had whipped cream which created a spectacular effect when Bam’s huge feet landed in it.)

As for milk-chocolate and peanuts: I’ve given Bam a tiny piece of milk chocolate once, when he was neutered and wouldn’t eat. It was the size of my pinky nail. He ate it and it made me SO happy because he’d refused EVERYTHING and looked so pitiful.

Yohio has half a peanut every day, but he’s a Henry-type bunny that thrives on eating bed-sheets, t-shirts, back-packs and plastic and laquered wood (my bed). Feral goats, I think Roberta once said about her lot. Yohio is a typical feral goat-rabbit.

Whatever name Manny-Tucker-Mucker gets, he’s already won the lottery by having found (been found by) TL and her bf. So he’ll always be a happy, happy bunny and that makes me happy.

Manny IS a great name though. How many pets, not just bunnies but any pets, are there that are called Manny? I’d say less than 0,001 percent of pets world wide bears that regal and distinguished name.

I’ve been so busy with work in the last couple weeks, I cannot believe all this happened! Tanlover, you are mad crazy, but also very inspiring to me. I want to adopt another bun (and have 2 in mind at HRS where I volunteer), but am so scared that I won’t be able to handle more than 2 rabbits at a time. I’m also scared that a new addition will change Nugget and Emilee’s relationship. I excited to hear about your bonding experience, but I’m sure all your buns will be like “Oh, mom brought home another brother, so what else is new?” hahaha

Sam is adorable, but he looks more like a SUNNY to me. I really love how you met him, so unexpected, like twist of fate. Anyways, big congrats and I hope his surgery goes well!

SORRY ALL – I’ve been battling with bonding. They have been living together for over a week now…but Nora is still picking on him and I’m trying to get a grasp on it! Ugh. They kill me. Then this morning I noticed Tucker looked really skinny. He has a vet appointment today but I’m kicking myself for not noticing it before. I weighted him and he’s only 2.7 compared to the 3.4 lbs he was three weeks ago at the Humane Society.
