Two months I found two bunnies abandoned in a wooded area near my home. I kept them apart thinking one was male one was female. After checking again I found they were both male. Me not knowing much about rabbits at that time I thought “good now they can keep each other company” Uh…no, they immediately started humping each other to fight for dominance and one ended up nipping the other. So I did some research and found they need to be neutered before they can stay together.

After putting up signs and ads for them I am now certain they were purposely dumped, so I decided to keep them. I am now planning on fixing them both but i am wondering if there is a certain age I need to do that before. I am not sure of their exact age but I don’t think they could be much older than a year old. It may be a while before I can fix them both because I need to find a good exotic vet. I just want to make sure I’m not running out of time.

How adorable! Little hotots Love their eyeliner! Amazing you rescued them.

As long as their testicles have dropped they are good to go to be neutered. There’s no age limit on when you can’t neuter them by, but obviously if you wait till they’re like 9 year old their could be a greater chance of risks. There’s a bonding tab and info section on this site you can refer to while you’re waiting to bond them.

They are super cute! Thank you for saving them!

As A&B already has said, there’s no time limit for neutering male buns, but in your case, sooner would obviously be better than later. They need about a month after their neuter before you can start bonding them – this time is needed for the body to adjust to the dramatic decrease in testosteron that a neuter entails.

Welcome to Binky Bunny! It’s great that you rescued these bunnies. Besides the bonding info in the BUNNY INFO link here, there is another page on bonding that is good and informative. https://rabbit.org/faq-bonding-multiple-rabbits/

Keep the two completely separated for now. Even a minute of time together at this point can result in injuries, and they can be severe. You can keep them within sight of each other, just no physical contact until they have been neutered and a few weeks have elapsed, when you can start the bonding process. If you give your general location, we may be able to give you some suggestions for rabbit savvy vets in your area.
