Remember that when it comes to spays and neuters, you get what you pay for. Hospitals that charge more will be taking better care of your rabbit, perform the pre-surgery prep more carefully and meticulously, and keep a better eye on your bunny after the surgery is over while he’s waking up. For example, a hospital that charges, let’s say, $300 for a neuter is going to be taking meticulous care of your bunny the whole way through, while a low-cost shelter neuter, they’re going to be a lot less meticulous because they have a ton of surgeries to get through. Neuters are so easy that it doesn’t matter as much as spays, and your budget is definitely something to consider too. But not all neuters are the same; something you learn when you work in the field.
That being said, I work at Paumonak Veterinary Hospital on the island, which sees exotics. I can’t remember the cost of our rabbit neuters exactly, but let me ask for you when I go to work. I’m pretty sure the price is somewhere in between that of a cat neuter and a dog neuter. Center Moriches Veterinary Hospital is also amazing for exotics if you’re more out east, but I don’t know their pricing for neuters. If you’re towards the middle, Island Exotic Veterinary Care is a place I’ve heard good things about, and Carrots and Catnips in Nassau is awesome if you’re out towards them.
