Need Vibes “Missing Rabbit”

I went to the stable this afternoon and, as always, had a bagful of veg for Henri, the barn bunny. I was upset to see his cage open and him nowhere in site. Turns out he got out last night and his owner couldn’t catch him because it was dark and he hasn’t been seen since. I’m so worried because this is a huge property very near a busy road and many a chicken has disappeared on us in the yard, caught by something in the night we assume.

I saddled up my horse and we rode around for an hour looking. Then I went around the farm on foot. There are just so many places he can be. I checked as far on the property as I think he could have gone. I looked under the tons of machinery and trucks and in all the buildings. No trace of him. I’m going back in the morning and I will search again. I alerted all the horse owners to keep an eye out for him. I’m so upset by this. A few weeks ago he got out but one of the boarders caught him before he could get very far.

Poor little Henri. I’m so upset and worried about him. And angry that he was able to get out in the first place. The gate should be tied since he got out last time.  Please send him some of those miraculous Binky Bunny vibes to be returned home safe and sound.

Oh gosh. Have you been able to find him? These people make me mad. They’ve shown time and again that he’s the least of their concerns, and now this… It makes me doubt their story. Do you know for sure something didn’t happen to him and they are just saying he escaped so they won’t be blamed?

Sorry it took me so long with an update. I’ve been really busy. The news is bad, unfortunetly…no sign of him. I doubt there will be now, it’s been so long. I’m so upset. I’ve looked after him and loved him like he was my own rabbit and now I’m left with this sorrow because someone was careless. His owner seems to think he’s out there, enjoying being a rabbit but I know that she just doesn’t want to face the fact that he probably died because of this mistake. As far as I know, I’m the only one who actually looked for him, or at least spent a lot of time doing it. Me and my bf searched the property thoroughly for 3 days after he left, no sign of him. I know that the longer a domestic animal is in the wild the less likely the positive outcome.

Something else I’m unhappy about. There was a horse clinic at the stable this weekend. One of the trainers owns a stable nearby and he seen the empty rabbit cage and dumped two baby rabbits in there on Saturday without asking. The stable owner was not pleased but didn’t want to send them back. She asked me if I wanted them and I do!!! But unfortunately just can’t afford/accommodate any more It’s gonna be the same thing all over again. Me looking after the rabbits so they don’t live in neglect. They are really cute though and I’ve already fell in love with them. Two bonded 3 month old baby brothers, lion head mix, one black and one white. I’m the one who made sure they had food today.

Rest in Peace, my Henri Winker. Know that you were loved down here and you will be sadly missed by me. Goodbye my little angel.

I’m SO SAD about Henri too. I know you loved him. I’m choking up about this, he deserved better, but I’m glad he had you to love him.

More rabbits.   Oh noooo.  Oh Henri.  My friends rabbit one of them got loose.  She found what was left of her in the woods.  So sad when this happens. I hope Henri is ok.

I’m tearing up about Henri. Maybe someone else found him and rescued him.

I totally agree with Jersey, in fact that was my first thought when you said you couldn’t take them – get them to a shelter right away. This time there’s no owner to circumvent, and we know the stable owner is careless when it comes to the bunnies. If the boys go to a shelter they have a good chance of getting adopted soon. I wish you could, but it will break your heart to not take them and spend more time worrying at the stable. If there are no more rabbits, maybe you could offer to donate the cages too, so there’s no more dumping happening there.

i’m so sorry about henri it’s heartwarming to know that you loved him and cared for him… every bun deserves some lovin. i hope that the babies make it to a shelter. bless you for caring!

Oh – i didn’t take that in that they were young bucks too. So the hormones are about to kick in if not already. Or….what if they’re not 2 bucks? It sucks someone here has been so irresponsible – and it sucks that people with big hearts like you LPT, are left to take on their welfare while the former owner has relieved themselves of a burden.

OH I am so sorry to hear about Henri. (Those precious photos of you and he are just so sweet) So sad!

I am also so sorry to hear now about these baby bunnies. Such an irresponsible “easy” way out for someone to do that. What a nightmare. Keep us updated with that situation. Maybe someone will want to adopt them somehow? Would the owner of the stable be willing to adopt them out?

Oh dear, somehow I managed to miss that Henri was a Californian. But maybe Pam is right and he has been found by someone else. I can only hope so.
Grrr! NOT cool to just leave two more babies to fate like this. Honestly, what goes through people’s heads…if anything…?
I know it’s hard on you LPT, but I do hope you can intervene for them. Although I’m voting for sainthood for you as it is. ((((((hugs)))))))))

I’m already in love with these baby buns. They are too cute. I’ve got some pics I will have to post.

Things are sort of in the works and we may be (my bf and I) be moving to a small farm in the country as soon as we can. We have to sell our house first. If that is the case I will ask if I can take them. If she says I can (apparently her son really likes them, but Henri was for her son too…) I could offer her $$ for her outdoor cage and they could live in my horse’s barn for the summer until I either 1: find a new home for them, I know my little niece would LOVE them but we would have to convince her Mom or 2: Get them Pasteurella tested they were thrown in Henri’s cage without anyone cleaning it!!!! and I am almost positive he did have Pasteurella) and if they are negative, move the little buggers into my house and find some way to pay for them
