Hello all, I had bought my grandson 2 Lionlop rabbits. He was living with me at the time and had been for several years. Recently he moved out and where he moved there is no room for the buns. I have 4 dogs and really can’t care for these rabbits like they should be so I’m looking for a good home for them. Any suggestions how to find a good home for them? They are 4 months old and not fixed yet because of their age. Thanks

I would call the local house rabbit society to see if they can help.

If you’re in the US, one easy way to find rescue groups that take rabbits is to do a petfinder.com search for rabbits near you. You’ll be able to see the names of shelters and rescue groups that currently have rabbits available for adoption and you can reach out to them and see if they are accepting surrenders. They may also be able to post a courtesy listing for you. You might also ask if you can post a flyer at the local exotics vet clinic, which will advertise to a group of people who have demonstrated that they are at least responsible enough to take their current pets to the vet!

I would be wary of giving them away on a site like craigslist, especially near Easter, unless you’re able to do a rigorous screening of potential adopters.

If these rabbits are housed together, no matter what sex they are or if they’ve been together their whole lives, at 4 months of age they need to be separated. You are either risking an unwanted litter or you are risking fighting and injuries.

You’ve gotten some good advice regarding finding homes for them. If you try to find homes for them on your own, make sure that the potential adopters know all about rabbit care and their ways, and that they are a long term commitment. So many people don’t know all that goes into their care, and they are soon wanting to be rid of them.

Right now, some of the rescues are not adopting out rabbits because they don’t want them used a live toys for Easter. Plus, they may be reserving any available space that they have now for the Easter rabbits who will be dumped in a couple of months. So it may be even harder to find any rescues that will take them at this time.

Thanks for the suggestions. I do have them separately, don’t need any more surprises! I will take care of them until a good home comes available for sure.
