Need Help w/Info for Bunny Sitter

So I’m going away in a few days and I need to write up a list of care instructions for my sitter (Thanks, Grandma!). I’ve printed out the Bunny Sitter Guide and I have the basics written down (foods, litterbox, water) but I’m wondering what else I should add. My Grandma knows nothing about rabbits so I really want to make sure that I’m not missing any vital information.

Also, I plan on prebagging Ox’s daily salads. His base salad will be a mix of green leaf and romaine, but what other greens will last well together for a week?

If you have good fresh kale and parsley, those should last a week. I’ve often had both of those to last almost 2 weeks if they are fresh.

In addition to writing down the basic care info for your Grandma, is it possible that she can come over beforehand and observe your feeding and care of them? She could also get to know them and make sure that they are comfortable with her. Will they have to be caged or penned the whole time, or can she let them out for exercise? If so, will she be able to get them back into an enclosure (if you use one)? By observing them for a while before you leave, that would also give her an idea of normal rabbit behavior and what would or would not be a cause for concern.

She will need the name and phone number of your vet, as well as the name of an emergency clinic if there is one nearby. I don’t know if you keep a medicine kit with some basic supplies or not. Would your Grandma feel comfortable with giving them any kind of treatment if needed? You could discuss that with her.

I’ve added the info for his regular vet as well as for two emergency vets.

She did come over and I walked her through his care, but she couldn’t stay long enough to observe his behavior. I have told her as well as written down what his normal behavior is and some things to look out for. I’ll also be talking to her on the phone daily while I’m away.

He’ll have to be penned for the week. The room I usually let him play in is 90% bunny proofed, but he has to be carefully watched at all times when he’s out since he could escape quite easily if he wasn’t watched. She has a bad hip so she can’t be jumping up every few minutes if he decides he wants to play “try to get out.”

This is my first time leaving him and I’m so worried that I’ll leave out some kind of important information.

The daily phone calls sound like a good plan. Your Grandma can ask you any questions or you can add anything that you may have forgotten. I assume that she will have your phone number in case she needs to contact you. It’s natural to worry when you are away from your bunny, but with all the care info you have given your Grandma and the fact that she has seen his set-up and been walked through his care, plus the daily contact you will have, it sounds like everything is taken care of and that you bunny will be fine in your absence.

You’re probably right. I’m just a worry wart. She says he’s doing good and eating plenty of hay. I’ll be talking to her later as well.

We are all worry warts when it comes to our darlings, but the best news there are is when the sitter says the bunny is eating lots of hay =)
