I’ve had my dutch bunny for a week now. And I noticed she started sneezing from the wood shavings so I switched to fleece blankets on the floor. Which has reduced her sneezing. Now she sneezes when she’s eating timothy hay. So I’m concerned as to could this be pasturella or is she allergic to the hay.

Is there any discharge from the nose?, if so what color? If it is clear it may be allergies, if you have a rabbit vet.

If it is white or color it could be an infection you your vet can determine that.

How is the hay is it dusty? If you feel it is dust from hay? you can shake it out, or you can spray it with water but you need get rid of it after awhile so it does not turn moldy.

Are there any smells that could cause it? One of mine has issues with any scented laundry detergent?

If you find it is allergies you can try air cleaner and during the winter months humidifier (if you are heating your house).

As an aside there are many different bacteria other than pasturella. Pasteurella tends to be the big boogeyman. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, staph, bordetella and some other ones.

Hay can be dusty, depending on the type or the brand or the growing and storage conditions. Some people have trouble with timothy hay causing them to have allergies, and they find that switching to orchard grass is very helpful. Try some orchard grass or try some different brands of timothy and see if that makes the sneezing stop.

As ergodic said, if there is white or colored discharge, your bunny should go to a vet.
