My horse is quite sick. She hasn’t eaten, drank or passed any droppings since Friday. I had the vet out Saturday night (you can just imagine what that cost) and he said all her vital signs were fine. He thought she may be stressed out because of her new pasture mate that is picking on her a bit.  But when I went to see her this morning she still hadn’t eaten or passed anything. I will have to get him out Monday morning again if she still hasn’t eaten. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Very bad luck with my horse lately. A few weeks ago, she had too much rich grass which resulted in her getting laminitis; a very complex condition that causes the inside of the hoof to swell and distort. It can be terribly crippling to a horse and even fatal. She had a mild case of this last summer which resulted in me changing her feed and limiting her time out on grass. She was on pain killers and anti-inflamatories for the last 2 weeks. The vet ordered her off grass…for the rest of her life. She can only have hay. No more treats either. She’s pretty depressed to be away from all her buddies who are in the grass fields, but if she gets this again, she could die. Fortunetly, though her feet are feeling better now and we can start training again soon.

Need some healing vibes to get her through this latest illness though. It could be a blockage which is quite serious, although probably not as serious as it is in rabbits. I’ll actually be quite excited if I see some poop in her stall in the morning!

You said in the other post that you’d had a bad day. I’m so sorry she’s sick.

((((((((((((((((((((((feel better Winnie horse!)))))))))))))))) I love horses, but can’t go near them because of my allergies. But every time I see one now, I almost always think of them as REALLY big bunnies with short ears and longer legs. ^_^ I know they suffer from some of the same distresses to their systems.
I think the meanie gods are picking on both of us LPT! Let’s go beat ’em up!

Aww I hope she feels better soon! She sounds like a sensitive little booger. It’s nice that horses are so big… makes them so much less fragile than bunnies, despite their similar dietary habits =)

I’m sorry, LPT! Did she pass anything today? I hope she is better! Nothing more intense than worrying about a beloved sick animal… when you just have to wait and hope… I’m sure you’re quite exhausted yourself. *Healing vibes* *speedy recovery vibes* for Winnie!

I thinks she’s slowly on the way to recovery. She didn’t pass or eat anything yesterday so the vet came out and did all the fun vet stuff (ie: hand up the butt up to the shoulders, etc). He had to tube her some mineral oil which means they put a giant tube up their nose down to their stomach to pipe in about a gallon of it. She was sedated but she fought him tooth and nail and ended up rupturing in her nasal cavitiy and, at that point, my bf had to hold her. I am really, really queasy and the sight of blood makes me want to faint. It’s so hard to see the vet do things like that to her, she doesn’t know it’s for her own good

The vet suspects the pain killers from her lameness upset her stomach and she’s not eating because it hurts. He gave her some pills I have to give her twice a day to help the pain.

The good news is she passed a bit last night but is eating very little so hopefully by the end of the week things will be better (and hopefully no more vet visits!!! until Friday at least).

Winnie appreciates all the vibes from you Binky Bunners~ (she actually loves bunnies, and cats….but HATES dogs)

OH my what an ordeal.   Poor Winnie ruptured a nasal cavity.   I know too bad they don’t understand that this is going to help them.   Must be very uncomfortable for her.

Winnie please recover soon vibes.  Ms. Bunny loving Winnie.  Hang in there.

Oh poor Winnie! Gosh I sure hope the vet has it figured out! Continued healing vibes! ((((((((((((((Winnie))))))))))))))
I understand about the fainting at blood thing…I gave up the desire for a nursing career because of that. *nods*
