I started to write this post, several times. But then I erased it and left the page each time. I am so embarrassed because I feel like all I do is ask people here for help or advice. I just have no one else to turn to.

I am having a financial crisis. Please don’t suggest that I could pet sit or walk people’s dogs. I tried that in the past and it never worked out. I really don’t know what to do and I have become so depressed it is almost crippling.

Is there anyone who would be willing to let me pm them?

I can certainly relate to financial difficulties. Feel free to PM me as well, if you like.

I can understand that, I was in the army as a medic for ten years and have a wife and three children living with us and our 4 rabbits. we make it day by day since the dissability I receive is half of what I made before. so we barely survive month to month. you should look to your family to help you emotionaly and be there for eachother. Depression is a medical condition!! and needs to be treated so that you brain make the proper reconections. so you should try to see a doctor. I will keep you in my prayers and wish you the best.

You can always PM me for a chat! I’m not sure if I’ll be able to help, but I can certainly listen.

My family isn’t one that likes to help each other. I can’t count on them for much. I have had depression for most of my adult life, it cycles up and down. I can’t afford to see anyone at the moment. I don’t have health insurance and school is out for the summer.

Mr. Buck and Elrohwen, I think I’m good at the moment. I don’t want too many conversations going on at once. If I still think I need some input, then I will definitely message you. Thanks!

Due to the nature of our forums/messages, and though this may absolutely not be the what you are asking for — I have to state that the site/forum/messaging cannot be used for soliciting financial support for individuals.

I do hope that people will be able to offer you the emotional support you need. I am sorry for what you are going through. Is there summer courses or school counselor resources available in the summer?. You may be able to seek out groups and online forums as well that are dedicated to people suffering from some rough times and depression who may be able to offer some very helpful advice. Here are a couple of examples

Oh no no, I wasn’t asking anyone for money. I was just looking for advice and a listening ear from someone who hopefully understands.

I do completely understand. Thanks for making sure to clarify though. I am so sorry for the emotional suffering you are going through. Please don’t be embarrassed. So many people have been through or are going through or will go through some very dark times. You are just human, nothing to feel shameful about. I wish you all of the best and hope you will find strength in those that are able to reach out. One thing that has helped me in the past is “now is not forever”, Sometimes it feels like it will be forever, especially if has been ongoing. But life is cycles of ups and downs in general, (which I know can be made more challenging with other internal ups and downs), and I hope that an “up” will be on the horizon for you. Cyber hugs to you!

I’ve been under a strain financially for a while now too, and have some real bouts of anxiety from it at times. BB is right – it will pass.

Please check out the links she provided. I want to add that your local government sites have many links to assistance you may now be eligible for that can really take some pressure off. The purpose of social services is to provide assistance with some basics while helping get folks back on their feet.
Even yesterday I discovered links via AARP (and you didn’t have to be 50 to follow these links) that took you to assistance from places like Assurance Wireless that gives you a free phone if you qualify. If you look it up I think it will take you to public assistance sites that will in turn help you with other things.

Or just start with your own county’s name, dot gov, as the website address and read what’s available. It’s designed to help.

Part of the problem is that I don’t qualify for assistance because I am a student. I cannot collect unemployment either.

That’s true about unemployment, but as a student you can go to your school’s financial department to ask about aide assistance that may be available.
Also, there should be a school counselor you can talk to. Both are first steps in learning what help you are eligible for and where and how to go about getting it.
That’s their job – providing you with info. you don’t currently know about. Never assume. Ask first.

P.S. I just want to add that I am sure you’ve already explored many of these suggestions, but I wanted to put them here in case anyone else is in similar circumstances (and in this economy, who isn’t) and might not be aware of some of these sources.

That said, please accept our cyber hugs. I think BB’s links may be good sites to explore.

Hey LBJ – I didn’t read anyone else’s comments really – only yours.  I am a student as well and your situation sounds kind of similar to some of the stuff I have been through (making ends meet for school on your own, not getting help from the family, people not understanding that your parent’s don’t pay your way through school).  I just filed for a “Loan Adjustment” at my university for more money and just received the money for it.  I was in quite a tight bind with some medical bills and needing to get my car fixed and was f.r.e.a.k.i.n.g. out.  If you would like some advice or just someone to talk to about it – feel free to PM me!  I’ve been through it in undergrad and am going through it again in grad school so I feel your pain!  Trust me!

School is obviously important, but if you cannot make ends meet and have no other means for income, have you considered putting your education on hold? It is not the ideal outcome, but when it comes down to taking classes or having a meal and roof over your head, sometimes those difficult decisions need to be made.

I guess I’m not understanding how that would help. It is summer now, so I probably would have been looking for a summer job anyway.
