Naughtier after neuter…

My 5 month old boy peanut has now been neutered for 3 weeks. With hopefulness of a litter trained future, I spent the first 2 weeks after his operation telling myself his behaviour would calm down. A few weeks on, he has begun nipping me and my boyfriend, even though he had NEVER done this before his op. He is also digging and chewing up the carpet more than ever. While I appreciate that neutering a bun is never a guaranteed cure for behaviour and litter training. I never expected him to become naughtier and dare I say it, slightly aggressive.

He is eating and pooping okay so I’m happy he is not ill or in pain and often spends his afternoons sprinting and binkying around my lounge. I’m just constantly having to watch him at the moment for fear of ruining my carpet, as I daren’t leave him in the room on his own.

Any help would be amazing for a slightly frustrated and (starting to get a little upset) bunny mother!

He may not have all the hormones out of his system yet. Maybe another couple of weeks?

I agree with JR, I would give it a couple more weeks. I believe it’s 4-6 weeks before all of the hormones are gone.

Yep, those post-neuter crazies will get you every time! I would definitely give it a few more weeks. Like the others have said, he could be experiencing that final surge in hormones.

Yep, my angel boy became a devil up to four weeks after the neuter. I wanted to strangle him a few times. Just keep redirecting / training going during this so nothing develops into a habit, but he should calm down soon.

i have heard hormones stay 4 to 6 weeks, but if they were not as aggressive to begin with, then they shouldn’t be post spay correct? I mean, if there was aggression prior and it continues then I would understand but in this case is it increased nipping?

I just got by bun spayed and this was something that I thought up. I don’t have any aggressive behaviors, but she is incredibly naughty, i’m hoping that she continues to be the same minus some of her chewing and digging behaviors

Powder was not naughty at all before his neuter. He didn’t chew, he didn’t dig, he wasn’t aggressive, he didn’t mark, he didn’t spray. I got him neutered so I could bond him with Stickers. During the hormonal surge, he bit me, chewed every wire he could find, started digging at carpets, chewed the underside of my box spring and jumped up inside of it, etc etc etc. After his hormonal surge was over, he went back to normal. But, yes, they can become aggressive post-spay/neuter during that surge even if they were not before hand.
