Quick health question for anyone who might have an idea. Our mini-lop of 5 years now has recently developed sneezing fits and lots of nasal mucous build up. The vet said it relates to a tooth/gum rot issue that is not curable and they can’t pull teeth as it makes problems worse.
For a couple of months now we have been monitoring and giving him a shot of penicillin every week. He sneezes and tries to clear his nasal passages a good dozen times a day and we just wipe it away. At first, the shot would work for a handful of days, but lately it doesn’t seem to do much. He is behaving and eating pretty normally but of course has the “head cold” symptoms component that we would all be annoyed with.
Has anyone experienced this or know of a better treatment or vet in the CO area? I’m aware there are some concerns with penicillin based drugs, we will be reaching out to other rabbit vets locally, but this was the highest regarded place. Thanks!
