Hi guys!
We clipped Tambor’s nails today for the first time. We had been postponing it again and again because we couldn’t find cat nail clipping scissors… and also, let’s be honest here, because we were dam scared of the whole process
. It was a big mess. We tried to clip them while one of us was petting him on the floor (he looooves being petted so we thought he would stay still) -it didn’t work, he escaped. We then lured him into a towel with food, wrap him in it and lift him (like in BB’s “bunny burrito” instructions) – he slipped through it as if the towel was made of soap.
By then, he hated us already and was probably traumatised for life, so, I decided to pick him up and hold him against my chest. I had never picked him up before, but I couldn’t think of any other way out of this. So, I put myself together and I did it! He was kicking and trying to get free for a few seconds, and I was feeling like the worst rabbit mum on earth. Actually, after reading this, I am sure you think I am, indeed, the worst bunny mother ever.
However, after a while, he stopped kicking and my husband was able to get his paws and clip his nails! Hallelujah!! When he was done, we freed him, he run to a corner, and we thought he would hate us forever and ever. But then my husband had the brilliant idea of giving him a tiny bit of banana. He had never eaten any fruit before. And, after eating it, he came back from his hiding spot to ask for petting
. So, I feel we are a happy family again -lol!!
Do you have any tips for clipping rabbit nails and not making it a horrible experience for them?
